Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Namaste morning

Namaste care is a person-centred approach, supporting people with advanced dementia to engage in meaningful activities to promote an improved quality of life. These activities may include: offering gentle touch through playing favourite music and sensory smells.

We turned the lights down low closed the curtains to the outside world to relax from the hustle & bustle of everyday life.

We had a virtual flowing waterfall and ambient lighting to set the mood and lovely aromatherapy smells.

The residents came into the room with a WOW one resident even replied this looks very peaceful I cannot wait for my turn.

Every resident really enjoyed the experiences in particular the head massage to the point they all nodded off ZZZZZZ LOLS.

We will be doing this on a weekly basis as they really benefited from the session.

Easter Bunny Visit

The Easter Bunny visited Derham House.

We were all delighted to have a visit from a special VIP - the Easter Bunny! Handing out chocolates and making everyone smile, our favourite rabbit was assisted by their little friend Ivy who charmed all the residents.

Performing Pets Easter Special

Our wonderful friends at Performing Pets never fail to amaze us during their visits. This week we had the absolute joy of meeting Marthaaaaaa the lamb!

We were relieved to learn that Martha is a budding TV star and so will not be ending up on a dinner plate this Sunday. The Performing Pets team shared details of Martha's birth and life so far along with her shining future.

Animal therapy is an important part of our life enrichment program and is regularly featured on the weekly resident-led activities calendars.

St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day was a huge success as always at Derham House!

We had dancers, a singer, Guinness, Irish-style food and some great laughs. The talented Cliff Jones performed wonderfully for our residents whilst the amazing dancers from Maguire's Osheas Dance Academy had us up and joining in!

Garden Centre Visit

There is nothing like a trip to the garden centre. We love our visits to Thurrock Garden Centre on a sunny morning.

Pottering in our garden helps reduce stress, promotes feelings of accomplishment and boosts self-esteem.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day

Our wonderful mothers always deserve celebrating and at Derham House we make sure each mother feels loved and cherished.

Presents, cards, flowers and messages of affection are just some of the ways we honour our wonderful resident mothers.
