Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Every day we run different activities throughout our home. The activities are designed and adapted to each individuals personal needs. The activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for and also to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.

We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.

Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

Local History Talk

Local History Talk

We were visited by Peter and Janet Coulls to reminisce about the yesteryears of Leamington Spa, Lillington and Cubbington. The talk was a great success, with many residentss remembering familiar faces, buildings and shops. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the slide show with ‘chit chat’ and light refreshments.

Making Wishes Come True

Jack turned 104 years old recently, and his birthday wish was to attend a Coventry City football match. The last time he was able to attend was for his 101st birthday, so we managed to get a hold of a lovely lady called Lorraine at the Sky Blues ticket office, who sorted out tickets and a car parking pass for Jack’s special day.

Jack had big plans: he first wanted to go to the pub for a pre-match meal and a whiskey, so we went to the closest pub to the ground and Jack had a great time talking to the staff and some away supporters on their way to the game.

Then it was time to get on the minibus, and off we went to the Ricoh Arena home of the Sky Blues, who Jack has supported for over 75 years. We were met by Steve, one of the stewards, who escorted us to our seats and got us some hot drinks to keep us warm.

The game was special to Jack, as it was also the Coventry City 'Legends Day', meaning some famous players from the club's past returned for the day. Jack enjoyed buying a new supporters scarf and a programme before kick-off.

The game was slow to being with, but then the fans began to sing and the players got stuck in. Unfortunately, by half time Coventry was losing 1-0 to Oxford United, and that’s the way the game ended. Jack said the score didn’t matter, as he had a fantastic time, especially when they wished him happy birthday during the announcements, and the whole stadium cheered and clapped for him.

A great day was had by all!

104th Birthday Celebrations

We celebrated Jack's 104th birthday with a party that his friends and family attended. Jack loved the fact that we put up flags for his big day and organised a Skype call with his grandson, who is in Thailand.

Jack enjoyed singing and sharing memories of his life with all who attended. Jack received cards and gifts from friends and family, including the local primary school. He said it was the best birthday party he’d ever had, and is looking forward to his 105th.

Stay & Play

Stay & Play

Our baby and toddler 'Stay and Play' group had a new member this week; residents were pleased to meet Ella, who, at only 3 weeks old, is our youngest member! Residents are looking forward to seeing her grow and develop into a young lady.

In 2 Cultures

In 2 Cultures

Residents at Cubbington Mill enjoyed an afternoon learning about African drumming and having a go at playing the finger pianos, shakers and percussion drums. Thanks a lot to In 2 Cultures for teaching us about African cultures and traditions.
