Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Cookridge Court's Got Talent

Our home hosted a talent show spectacular, as we welcomed our residents, relatives and friends.

It was a delight and privilege to welcome our afternoon hosts. Ant & Dec who introduced our entrants.

Our talent show entrants didn't only have to wow the audience, as we had our panel of judges on hand ready to buzz any entrant who didn't impress!

Everyone shone in their acts. However there could be only winner!

After much deliberation. Tracey who had earlier sang the Doris Day classic 'Que Sera Sera' was crowned the winner of the 2024 Cookridge's Got Talent and was presented with the winning trophy by Ant & Dec!

Coffee with a Fire Fighter

Residents, colleagues and visitors at our home, were delighted to welcome our local fire brigade for fun filled morning tea party.

Our West Yorkshire Fire Brigade based in Cookridge, Leeds, spoke to our residents and visitors about their day to lives in the fire service and news from the local community whilst enjoying tea and cake together in the homes café area.

We also treated our special guests to a rousing music performance courtesy of local performer Brandon Cooke, whilst they enjoyed a selection of sweet treats and beverages.

The most excitement came when our residents were able to get a close up look of the fire engine and enjoyed a demonstration of the equipment used in emergencies.

Guests from the local community had the opportunity to meet Megan from local solicitors Newstead & Walker based in Otley, Megan discussed how to plan for care. Topics included what it means to have a Power of Attorney, and how to manage care fees.

General Manager Karen Francis said: “We’re really grateful to Megan and Newstead & Walker for coming in to help ease the concerns of those worried about the financial aspect of care."
