Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Home hosts BBQ

Staff, residents and relatives came together at Cookridge Court Care Home to enjoy a community BBQ that was held in the home’s garden on 8th September 2023.  The hospitality team at Cookridge Court Care home served a selection of BBQ favourites including BBQ Cheese Burgers, sausages for hot dog and vegetable skewers which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the gathering.

Resident, Judith said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the day surrounded by lots of great people and my friends at Cookridge Court. The weather was beautiful, one of the hottest weeks of the year. Staff did a great job, not just on the day, but organising the gathering and getting everyone together.”

Silent Disco

What a fabulous silent disco we have had today, with the amazing Pete Goldup - The Silent Disco DJ. We always like to get our day started off right so what a better way than a good old boogie.

Staff and residents gathered for a morning of dancing, laughter and some new props to add to the fun, bringing smiles and a whole lot of fun for everyone to enjoy.  The session was priceless seeing the beautiful smiles on our residents faces, having so much fun.

Feeding the ducks at Yeadon

The activity team and residents went to Yeadon Tarn to enjoy a lovely walk, an ice cream and feeding the ducks

On what has been another beautiful day, we have absolutely loved getting out into the fresh air and gorgeous sunshine.

Creative minds

This month at Cookridge Court the residents had fun getting creative with the wonderful Tracey from Creative minds, as she returned for a summer themed art session - beaches!

Whilst taking part in this session, our residents were also reminiscing about beach holidays they used to venture on in younger life, laughing about memories and telling each other funny stories.

Tracey will be returning next month with another fabulous session for everyone to enjoy.

Residents visit Golden Acre Park

Staff and residents from Barchester’s Cookridge Court Care Home, in Leeds had a fantastic time visiting one of many local attractions – Golden Acre Park in Cookridge where they all enjoyed taking part in a lovely walk around, taking in the beautiful scenery.

Residents and staff had a brilliant time meeting new people, feeding the ducks, finishing off with a delicious Yorkshire Ice Cream

International Beer Day

You better beer-lieve that residents at Cookridge Court care home in Leeds, were more than hoppy to raise a glass, and sample some top craft ales, bitters and lagers, in celebration of International Beer Day.

The Activity team at Cookridge Court set up shop in our newly refurbished bar for a real pub experience and brought in a range of brew-tiful British and International ales for residents to sample.  Residents then had a beer-based quiz whilst they sampled the different craft ales, bitters and lagers.
