Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Performance from the wonderful Emma James

This week saw the fabulous return of the very famous Emma James, returning with yet another show stopper performance, which everyone danced the morning away with.

Resident's gathered together to enjoy the morning, singing along to some well known classic songs. The activities team got everyone up and dancing along, creating many wonderful memories for friends and family.

Emma is back next month for another brilliant performance.

Virtual Sensory Storytelling Session

Our residents had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.

It was a truly lovely time for all.

Springtime Pantomime

We welcomed back the return of the brilliant Northeast Producers Ltd who came to perform a springtime pantomime ’Mother Knows Best’

We had so much fun throughout the afternoon and even had audience participation, with resident Margaret making her debut and playing a part.

The whole performance was joyous, the actors were amazing and our residents, families and team were laughing non stop. Throughout the performance we sang from start to finish which was beautiful.

Resident, Margaret said “I have had so much fun this afternoon. I loved playing my part and getting involved, I cannot wait for them to come again.”

Coronation Celebrations fit for a King

Residents, friends, family and Staff enjoyed a Royal afternoon celebrating the coronation of King Charles III with our very own Garden Party.

We were thoroughly entertained by the fantastic ToeTapper’s with their amazing vocals getting the party well and truly started.

Our freshly cooked BBQ food and refreshments went down a treat for everyone to enjoy, with a special well done to our kitchen department who did a fantastic job.

Everyone at Cookridge Court, would like to say a special thankyou to all our family and friends who came and attended an absolutely fantastic afternoon. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

The return of Ukulele Henry

After a long break the wonderful and amazing Ukulele Henry made a return to us here for an spectacular performance - it’s like he never went away.

We cannot tell you how much our residents and team members have missed Henry.

The whole afternoon was filled with joy laughter and happiness as we listened and joined in, dancing away to some fabulous classic songs.

Henry will be returning next month, for everyone to enjoy!

Rich History of Coronations

We had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

The event was highly enjoyable for everyone, and we are eagerly anticipating King Charles' coronation.
