Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Laura Marshall
My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home
Rosh Hashanah
Today we started the Rosh Hashanah which is a two-day observance and celebration that begins on Monday 26th September 2022 until Tuesday 27th September 2022. Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of a Jewish New Year, according to the teachings of Judaism and is the traditional anniversary of the creation of Adam & Eve. Rabbi Kleiman from Beth Hamidrash Hagadol visited our wonderful Jewish residents at Cookridge Court, giving a wonderful service to mark the start of the celebrations.
Tinkling the ivories
Resident Emily had a great time playing the piano this week to the other residents, with some very memorable songs. Emily got the room filled with joy, laughter and a good old singalong. Everyone enjoyed their time and cannot wait to do it again
Dashara festival
This week some residents and team members at Cookridge Court celebrated the Dashara festival mostly celebrated in the religion Hinduism and in countries such as India and Nepal. It’s a nine day festival, on the last people and families give gifts, get blessing and visit temples. Some of the gifts that were given are mixed of Indian sweets such as mimkin & jalabi. Royal Botanic Garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
Beautiful bouquets
Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.
During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.
We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
Afternoon tea
This afternoon the residents of Cookridge Court enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea in our newly refurbished bar. There was savoury and sweet nibbles, freshly prepared by our chef Lindsay along side a choice of wine, beer, tea & coffee.
Resident Ambassador Florence said “I have had a lovely afternoon in this beautiful new bar, it is so lovely to sit and have a brilliant time with everyone.”

We extend a warm invitation for you to join us at our monthly coffee morning, come along and make new friends - all welcome from 10.00 am.

Come along and make new friends over a refreshing drink and slice of home made cake from 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm.
