Activities at Claremont Parkway Care Home

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our fundraiser was a massive success, bringing together our residents, families, and  amazing community heroes to support breast cancer awareness. 
While we don't have the final fundraising total just yet, we are working hard to calculate it and will share the final amount with you all as soon as possible! In the meantime, we want to send a massive thank you to absolutely everyone who donated and helped us support this vital cause. 

We are so grateful to Breast Friends Northampton for sharing their powerful personal journeys, handing out vital information leaflets, and giving a life-saving demonstration on how to check for signs of breast cancer. Tamara Bloomfield from Fitted by Tamara also joined us to showcase her wonderful, compassionate home-visit bra fitting service that supports individuals through every unique health journey. We were deeply honoured to welcome Kettering Deputy Mayor Andy Byatt into our home and thank him for sharing details about the fantastic work he is doing for the town of Kettering. A huge thank you also goes to the Kettering and District Lions Club for their generous tombola donations and for providing our attendees with life-saving emergency medical tubs for their fridges.  

Our local supermarkets showed amazing support, so a big shout-out goes to Julie, the Tesco Community Champion, and Mina Everett, the Asda Community Champion, for their beautiful hamper and tombola donations. 

Finally, we want to give thanks to our incredible in-house team, our Activity Coordinator, Karen, for her amazing support in organising the day, and our talented Chef, Mel, for creating a spectacular spread of cakes, sandwiches, mousses, and savouries that everyone loved. 
General Manager Chloe Hornby shared "I am incredibly proud of our community for coming together to support such an important cause. Bringing together vital health education from Breast Friends Northampton, practical life-saving tools from the Lions Club, and the wonderful generosity of our local business partners made this afternoon truly unforgettable. Thank you again to every single person who attended, donated, and made this day so special". 

Residents at Claremont Parkway enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of live entertainment, taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane from the 1950s to the 1970s.

The home welcomed the incredibly talented Simon from Sunset Magic, who performed an energetic mix of classic hits across multiple genres. The room was filled with laughter, clapping, and singing as residents sang along to their favourite tracks.

It was a true community event, with several family members joining in the fun. The home was also delighted to welcome back two ladies who recently enjoyed a respite care break at Claremont Parkway. They regular visit the home to stay in touch with the friends they made and to join in on the vibrant monthly activities calendar.

We celebrated a very special birthday here at Claremont! 

Our lovely resident Lynn was joined by her sister to mark the big day. Lynn was absolutely delighted with her delicious birthday cake, and the whole team loved coming together to sing 'Happy Birthday' to her.

At Claremont, every resident receives their very own personalised birthday cake. We love making sure each birthday is just as unique, meaningful, and special as they are. Happy Birthday, Lynn! 

Residents of Claremont were full of smiles as we celebrated International Cheesecake Day!

Fun facts were firstly discussed and everyone was shocked to learn about the largest cheesecake which weighed a whopping 15,008lbs! and was created by Philadelphia Cream Cheese.

Residents found out the top 10 flavours of cheesecake, however the group were in disagreement with the top flavour which was Oreo cheesecake, with Strawberry flavour coming in 2nd place.

Residents voiced they would rather have the strawberry flavoured cheesecake.

With food related activities, residents are also able to taste some delicious cheesecake, and so after learning about the delicious dessert, they were able to try some, on offer was strawberry swirl flavour and lemon cheesecake, which for some residents it was a very difficult decision to make! The lemon flavoured cheesecake won at Claremont, however residents all agreed it was a lovely treat to have in the afternoon with a cup of tea!

A huge congratulations to Nedia who is one of our day shift carers for being nominated by both residents and staff for Employee of the month.

Nedia was presented with flowers, chocolate and certificate by General Manager Chloe.

Nedia is a great part of the team and has a very warm, gentle & caring nature to everyone around her and her hard work and dedication is an asset to the home.

At Claremont Parkway, our vibrant activities calendar is designed to uplift and inspire. 

This week's 'Toe-Tapping Tuesday' did exactly that, bringing smiles and song to our lounge with a brilliant performance by live vocalist Dean. From Elvis Presley to The Beatles, the nostalgic playlist had everyone singing along.We love hosting these musical afternoons because of the immense benefits they bring to our residents. 

Music is a powerful tool that helps stimulate reminiscence, promotes physical coordination through dancing and clapping, and builds a strong sense of connection and companionship within our care home.

Anna loves being out in the garden and, upon joining our community, wished to add more plants, vegetables, and herbs to the grounds.

Whenever she is able, Anna heads out into the garden with the dedicated support of her carer, Michael, who visits twice a week to provide extra assistance.

Thanks to the recent hot weather, the strawberries, tomatoes, and sunflowers have absolutely flourished! Anna and the team members have already been sampling the glorious, fresh strawberries and tomatoes.

Spending time outside brings immense benefits for Anna. Furthermore, her fellow residents have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the cheerful sunflowers and vibrant passion flowers. These beautiful additions have sparked lovely conversations as residents tour the garden, truly brightening everyone’s day.

Another day and another birthday in August to celebrate.
Birthdays are so much more than just another day, they are an opportunity to celebrate each resident, their life, and the memories they have created.

Every resident receives their very own personalised birthday cake, making their day special and as unique and meaningful as they are.

Bronwen was overcome with emotion with the birthday cake that had been made for her by the Head chef, with Bronwen stating “the cake looks wonderful thank you” residents gathered round to sing happy birthday and to join her in a slice of the cake.

Our Country & Western Day was filled with smiles, laugher, and the wonderful sound of live music. Residents were treated to a fantastic performance by talented singer Glyn who sang a range of Country Classics.

We also had the added enjoyment of one of our residents Granddaughters dancing along to the songs, Everyone was singing along, tapping their feet, clapping and sharing special memories from years gone by.

Days like these are about so much more than entertainment, they provide opportunities for friendship, connection, and meaningful engagement.

Seeing residents laugh & reminisce reminds us how important these special occasions are in enriching everyday life & supporting emotional wellbeing.

Residents of Claremont this morning welcomed back to the home Debbi and Kay from the Parish Church in Kettering. 
The ladies kindly came in to deliver a short service with prayers for our residents, where communion was also being offered to those residents who wished it.

After the service the residents enjoyed singing a selection of hymns together and within the group they chose, Amazing Grace, Morning Has Broken and All Things Bright and Beautiful.

Holding a church service within the home provides spiritual, emotional and social benefits for our residents and helps them stay connected to their faith and also helps them to feel part of a community and encourages friendships.

We are incredibly grateful to Mina for her kind donation of a wonderful hamper for our upcoming Pink Ribbon Afternoon Tea! 

We are so excited to welcome Mina to the event next Wednesday. This is a free event open to anyone in our local community to enjoy a lovely afternoon while raising vital funds for the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

Saturday 1st August at Claremont Parkway was a particularly special day for one of our residents, who was celebrating her 100th Birthday!

Vera who has been with the home since May 2020 and has touched the lives of so many people with her good humour and life stories.

Vera was joined by members of her family who came in to celebrate her birthday along with the friends she has made since being at the home. Family gathered in the garden lounge for refreshments and to wish Vera  a very happy 100th birthday.

In the afternoon friends, family, residents and team members enjoyed a chorus of singing with the very talented Dean Jones, who also sang Happy Birthday to Vera, who was delighted with the entertainment.

Vera received Birthday cards from the home, family and from King Charles III which Vera was delighted with. Flowers galore and lots of gifts.

Vera's Daughter said "Thank you to all your colleagues for their help and support in making Mum's birthday so wonderful.

I honestly don't think the day could have gone better!!"

These visits have sparked beautiful friendships, filled our lounges & Conservatory with laughter, and created deeply meaningful connections across generations.

Our residents and the students have team-up for some wonderful activities including crafting and decorating unique trinket boxes and fan, enjoying sunshine and chats in our lovely garden and Playing interactive games on our digital table learning basic sign language together to encourage inclusive communication!

These sessions have given both our residents and the students lasting memories and a true sense of purpose. A huge thank you to everyone involved we are already counting down the days until you return to college in September! 

On Tuesday residents enjoyed a visit to the Dementia Cafe which is held at the Baptist  Church Hall along Rockingham Road and is run by the Rotary Club. Residents spent time socialising in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. 

They listened to a live band playing a variety of familiar songs, which had everyone singing along, clapping and tapping their feet to the music.

The outing provided an opportunity to reminisce, engage with others, and experience the positive benefits of live music, leaving everyone smiling and in good spirits.
