Activities at Chester Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.

Lauren Corbett

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court.  I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.

I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Love is in the air for Valentines

Residents at Chester Court have been busy preparing for Valentine’s Day. We’ve been getting creative and making an array of Valentines decorations to display around the home. We have made heart wreaths to hang on doors, wrapped cardboard hearts with red wool to make hanging hearts to put on the wall and decorated 3D trees with glitter love hearts to put on the tables. We have also made some valentines cards to gift to loved ones or display in rooms.

Australia Day

Residents of Chester Court took a virtual trip down under as they celebrated Australia Day with an array of fun-filled activities, from taking a virtual tour of Melbourne Zoo and getting to see many of the animals.  Some of their favourites were the monkeys, koalas and kangaroos. They then took a virtual walk along Golden Beach which was beautiful and hearing the sounds of the waves was very relaxing.  Residents even enjoyed an arts and craft session where they painted boomerangs and learnt about its origins and how used by the Aboriginal Australian people for hunting

Burns Celebrations

Residents celebrated Burns Night with a day of all things Scottish, reading a short biography of Robert Burns and learning about his life, watching a video of Scottish highland dancing and listening to the sound of bagpipes which got some of the residents toe-tapping and dancing along too from the comfort of their armchairs before the hospitality team served haggis, neaps and tatties for dinner and after reading Robert Burns’ famous poem Address to a Haggis. It was a wonderful day for all!

Card making

Residents at Chester Court enjoy their regular arts and crafts sessions and during a recent session wanted to create a selection of cards including a ‘Get well’ cards for a member of the homes care team, to get well soon.  There was a lot of fun with the sticking, gluing and glitter as they made their designs. As they finished everyone signed the card get well card, a lovely gesture from everyone at the home and one which will be appreciated.  Arts and crafts in just one of the homes many activities planned as part of their life enrichment programme.

International Flower Day

Residents at Chester Court celebrated International Flower day on 19/01/21. Flower themed word searches were completed in the morning followed by flower arranging in the afternoon. We used a variety of flowers such as, chrysanthemums, tulips and roses. Overall we had a fully enjoyable day.

Keeping residents connected

Residents are overjoyed at Chester Court care home in Bedlington, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Chester Court care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.
