Activities at The Cedars Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Angela Cawsey

Activities Cooridnator

My name is Angela Cawsey and I am 60 years young.  I have lived locally to Cedars since 2011, firstly in Downton and more recently in Alderbury.  In the past I have worked with mature people in their homes, and adults with learning difficulties in a number of settings.   During lockdown I ran daily zoom sessions for wellbeing, including bingo and quizzes.

I enjoy spending time with people and helping them smile, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups.  When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John’s Ambulance which was very rewarding.

Other jobs I have enjoyed include, selling computers, an IT and Management Trainer, HR and Business Manager and my personal favourite, being Grandma to 8 grandchildren.  I love music, craft, the outdoors and animals.

Thank you so much to Wellow Squirrels who came to visit yesterday. They sang carols, made Christmas paper chains and entered our Christmas colouring competition. Our residents absolutely loved the visit.

Celebrating our fabulous Refurb!

Cedars Care Home in Landford welcomed the Major and local VIPs to a fabulous event celebrating the refurbishment of the home. Cedars has a brand-new look and feel following significant investment from owners, Barchester Healthcare. The Old Manor House of the home has been transformed with a smart new makeover. What’s more, the home’s residential care facilities have been completely refurbished with new flooring, furniture and décor. The interiors are warm and homely, with a touch of luxury and a choice of comfortable seating. Twenty-one bedrooms have also been fully refurbished, including new en-suite bathrooms.

The refurbishment provides an impressive new environment for residents and visitors to enjoy, and Cedars also makes a wonderful place for staff to work.

To celebrate, the home is throwing open its doors on 16th November from 1:00 p.m. and inviting friends, family and the local community to come and see the new-look home.

Highwoods Country Park

Our residents enjoyed visiting Highwoods Country Park today.

Garden Centre

A few of our residents requested to go out to a local Garden Centre, very close to our home called Fillpots. Here we spent our time looking at some of the lovely handmade gifts in the shop, smelling the flowers, and the fresh herbs and mint. We then took a lovely rest in the cafe, enjoying some tea and coffee, with a selection of cakes and scones. What a delightful way to spend the afternoon!

Singalong

Our residents love an excuse for a singalong.  The lovely Dave Dawson came in and sung some of our favourite Elvis Songs to celebrate the anniversary of the Kings death. Our General Manager, Sam Humphries, said “Dave Dawson is always a hit with our residents and we all loved singing Jail House Rock”.

Llama Visit

Having had a bereavement in the family, one of our residents needed a bit of cheering up and they said would like to see some Llamas. A big thank you to Mr Fencing Wiltshire Ltd who arranged for us to visit their Alpacas. The resident took some friends and was over the moon. We had tea and biscuits on the mini bus, a great trip enjoyed by all.
