Activities at The Cedars Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Angela Cawsey
My name is Angela Cawsey and I am 60 years young. I have lived locally to Cedars since 2011, firstly in Downton and more recently in Alderbury. In the past I have worked with mature people in their homes, and adults with learning difficulties in a number of settings. During lockdown I ran daily zoom sessions for wellbeing, including bingo and quizzes.
I enjoy spending time with people and helping them smile, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John’s Ambulance which was very rewarding.
Other jobs I have enjoyed include, selling computers, an IT and Management Trainer, HR and Business Manager and my personal favourite, being Grandma to 8 grandchildren. I love music, craft, the outdoors and animals.

Life at The Cedars Care Home
A beautiful setting
Pheasants are often in the grounds grazing and they look so colourful when you get close up, from the lounge and our garden rooms the views are stunning over the lawns and trees – it’s difficult to appreciate our stunning setting from just photos so do call us to arrange a virtual tour (on WhatsApp, Zoom or Facetime) or face to face visit. For personal visits we do ask you to follow our visiting protocols to protect residents and staff as we are proud to remain ‘Covid Free’!
Cocktail and Mocktail evening
We all enjoyed and evening of cocktails and mocktails in the lounge, the drinks were served with nibbles to bring a really festive feel to the event
Stunning decorations from nature
Residents have enjoyed getting crafty and making Christmas decorations from pine cones collected from our beautiful grounds around the home – they really are eco-friendly as zero miles travelled!
Residents delight at our new visiting suite
Residents are overjoyed at The Cedars care home with the opening of a dedicated indoor visiting suite so they can continue to spend time with their loved ones. It was lovely during the summer months to meet in the garden however less comfortable in the colder weather so everyone is delighted with the new suite. We are also still supporting residents with all the calls on Skype, Facetime virtually on the home tablet.
Jo Pattison, General Manager, said: “The visiting suite has been a much welcomed development for our residents to continue to receive much looked forward to visits from their loved ones. Visits are well organised, and a lot of safety measures have been put in place to keep everyone safe. It was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents and their relatives in a warm and cosy environment.”
Pumpkin flowers!
Flower arranging is a very popular activity at The Cedars and it was extra special this week with a Halloween twist, we used the pumpkins as the bases for the arrangements which made them look suitably ‘spooky’!
Conversation, games and quizzes
Every day we have daily discussion groups and games often follow, residents choose their favourites and its great there is always a member of staff to join in if needed.
