Activities at Caldy Manor Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators work together to provide daily activities suited to the tastes of residents. We encourage those we support to continue with any hobbies whilst they stay at home. We also hold group activities, such as exercise to music, sing-alongs, craft sessions and visits to local places of interest. There are also evening events, including cheese & wine evenings and race nights. We keep families up-to-date through our newsletter and notices that can be found across the home. Family and friends are always welcome to join in!

Life at Caldy Manor Care Home

A peek inside Dartmoor Zoo

We were able to virtually dive into the impressive wildlife of Dartmoor Zoo.

We explored its grounds and learnt about the unique history of the park from the zoo’s educational team. The culmination of the tour was the live tiger training demonstration, which was wonderful to see and enjoyed by all.

Our residents were delighted to see amazing photos and short videos of the animals and take a peek inside their home.

Residents have been loving the Euros!

Residents and staff at Caldy Manor care home in Caldy have been cheering on their home sides throughout the Euros.  The home has been decked out with flags and residents have been enjoying all the action over the past three weeks.  Everyone at the home has been so excited that Gareth’s boys have been playing so well!

Fans of the beautiful game at Caldy Manor were delighted to be able to watch this year’s fixtures after the disappointment of last year’s tournament having to be postponed.  Residents and staff have been getting together to watch the matches and celebrate with a cold beer and footie-inspired bar snacks.

Hannah Roberts, General Manager at the home, said: “We have loved watching the Euros, we have watched pretty much all the matches – lots of our residents are footie fans.  It has been fantastic to be able to cheer on all the home sides and England did really well to get so far in the tournament.”

Icelandic adventures for Residents

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland’s Puffin Rescue Centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary.

We were able to virtually meet some of the rescued Atlantic Puffins and to learn interesting facts about their care and unique lives. We took a peek into their lives in the wild, the Puffling rescue program in the Westman Islands, and how SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s team takes care of these charismatic little birds each day.

It was a very exciting experience, enjoyed by all.

A Grand Day Out

A mini bus day trip to LLandudno and the Great Orme was a sensational day out as we were blessed with the weather and took in the stunning views.  We walked the prom and after a picnic headed up to the Great Orme.  We will retunr frequently this summer to make the most of the spectacular beauty spot.

National Cream Tea Day

Staff and residents at Caldy Manor in Caldy brewed up a storm for National Cream Tea Day on June 25th by hosting an afternoon tea party in the garden with a wonderful selection of baked treats and of course, lots of pots of tea.

Refusing to pick a side in the controversial debate of cream before jam for the Cornish tradition or jam before cream as part of the Devonshire tradition, Caldy Manor enjoyed homemade scones both ways, all washed down with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.

Residents tucked into sweet goodies, all baked by talented Activities Lead, Debbie Thomas.

Hannah Roberts, General Manager at Caldy Manor said: “It is so lovely to be able to host events like these again now that we’re able to have visitors and entertainers back in our garden, the residents have loved having family and friends here today and who doesn’t love a cream tea?  This is definitely one new tradition we’re going to be adopting!”

Wartime experience with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, staff and residents at Barchester’s Caldy Manor care home inwere transported back in time for a World War 2 themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

The Oxfordshire UNESCO World Heritage Site has been offering virtual tours throughout lockdown in order that people can continue to enjoy all the rich history and splendour that Blenheim Palace has to offer.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort. The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.
