What our families say: Caldy Manor Care Home

"A massive thank you to the manager and her team at Caldy Manor, Dad stayed here for a weeks respite whilst Mum had a well-deserved break. Dad was treated and cared for very well. The manager kept us updated with very informative emails about Dad, which put our minds at ease. Thank you again, Caldy Manor."

"Caldy Manor is unique. As soon as you arrive up the driveway the house has character and a warmth that is attractive. The same is true of the staff and the ethos of the home, we were always welcomed in and their communication with us was reliable and informative. It gave you the feeling that you knew what was going on and how your relative was faring. Their care of our relative was second to none and he became part of their ‘family’. They always went the second mile both for him and for us as we lived a distance away. We were sorry that he needed to go to a nursing home in the end as we knew he loved it at Caldy Manor. Thank you to all the staff for making the home such a special place."

"Caldy is a nice home, but don't put your loved one if they have dementia. They say they can offer dementia care with their new Memory Lane section but they can't cope with anything beyond residential. My dad became distressed and disorientated on day three of his stay and they demanded my mum collect him. They as a team of trained "specialists" "couldn't cope" but felt it appropriate to throw the responsibility back on my mum as a single, untrained woman without any warning. She was basically summoned to remove him. Moreover, the manager couldn't even be bothered to meet my mum to explain what had happened; my dad was dumped in the reception with a carer, she collected him and we have heard nothing since! They seem to be caring but it is essentially a business and the niceties stop once they have collected their fees. So in summary, very flashy home with some caring staff but have bitten off more than they can chew claiming that they can cater for dementia."

"My parents stayed at Caldy Manor at the end of February whilst my wife and I enjoyed a holiday. The care and kindness they received from the staff was excellent as was the attention to their minor medical needs. The home is spotlessly clean and the food was excellent, I know as I stayed for lunch before leaving them. Neither of my parents (both in their 90's) have ever had "respite" care before and remain quite independent in their own home, so it was with some apprehension that I made these arrangements. The manager too visits their home prior to their stay allayed any fears that my parents had and knowing that they were safe and in good hands made our holiday all the more relaxing. Many thanks indeed to everyone at Caldy Manor and we hope to do the same again later in the year."

"Making the decision for a loved one to go into care is not an easy one. However, since our very first contact with the staff at Caldy Manor, we had known the decision was the right one. Everyone on the team, from catering and estates to carers and management, has welcomed my mum and our family with a genuine warmth and kindness that has been really touching. The care my mum has received has been second to none. Nothing is ever too much trouble and there is a family feel to the place that makes it very special."

"From the moment our frail 93-year-old mum entered Caldy Manor, she was treated with care, kindness and respect. The staff were all 5-star in terms of understanding her needs from the cleaners, chef, carers and management. Everyone saw her as an individual. Sadly, her Dementia deteriorated rapidly and we were advised that a nursing assessment was being organised. This happened very promptly, allowing us to move her to a nursing unit in a timely fashion. Even after she had left Caldy Manor, the staff kept in touch with us to find out how she was."

"I have found the staff of the care home to be extremely kind, efficient and most helpful. My wife could not have had better attention, she is very settled here, and could not wish for anything better."

"I visited my friends who are now both residents in your lovely home. What a delightful home, lovely gardens, rooms, dining room and such a lovely meal was served which had been freshly prepared. My friends had their laundry done for them and some items even ironed. Excellent, I was very, very impressed."

"We chose Caldy Manor Care home for my Mum and Dad for several reasons but the main reason was the staff. All their daughters live in Australasia! My Dad passed away in March 2018 and the staff were amazing, helping my Mum to cope with the loss. My Mum now considers Caldy as home. The staff look after my Mum as if she was family. I cannot say how grateful I am to them for all the loving care. They try to take Mum out of the home - she is wheelchair bound, so it is hard. But Mum LOVES to go out and the staff try as hard as they can to do this. This month, 2 carers took my Mum to Birkenhead to see Prince Harry and Megan. She actually met Harry - who held her hand and talked to her for 5 mins, then Megan also held her hand! None of this would have been possible without the kindness of the staff involved. The food is amazing - I love eating there! I cannot recommend this home more highly."

"Our families have had three residents at Caldy Manor. Sadly one died this summer but the care and compassion shown to us all was above and beyond what would be expected, all the staff put themselves out to help relatives at that difficult time. More recently we wanted to have a surprise birthday party for a reluctant relative again super cooperation and nothing was too much trouble. It was a great success even enjoyed by the person who didn't want any fuss."

"My husband stayed for one week and was very impressed. He thought everything was so good, accommodation, food, staff, care. He says that what he expected, he received during his stay. He has experience of another care home and this far exceeds that experience. He feels that no one could go wrong in booking in here."

"Having visited numerous care homes during the last few months, so that we could assess the various needs required for my brother, at long last, we have found the answer. CALDY MANOR. As soon as we entered this beautiful building we felt such a relief. Invited to stay for a very nice lunch and a tour of the rooms - each being individual and tastefully decorated - we were so impressed. The staff are unbelievable. At all times checking the needs of the residents, making sure that they have everything they want or need, are happy and content/chatting/laughing/discussing/listening, or just sitting quietly, stroking a hand. As we said to each other, "If you had to go into a care home, you would not choose anywhere else" Would we recommend Caldy Manor? Indeed we would."

"My father has been at Caldy Manor for 3 years now. The staff are excellent and look after him well. He's gas happy as he can be there. The home provided a good range of activities and the food has improved over the past year and meals are of high quality."

"We found no other home that gave the level of care and understood out father's requirements. The low level of staff turnover has been reflected in how staff treat our father and some have gone over and above in what could be injected to keep him happy and feel at home."

"Genuine care and concern for the residents. Best interests come first, listens to the relatives. The care home feels like a home from home and not an institution. I feel confident my relatives are receiving the best care and gives me peace of mind knowing excellent care is being provided."

"Caldy have been excellent for my parents. The staff are both professional and very friendly, as a result my parents have always felt like this was their home. As they have aged, the management has always been on top of their situation and we have felt the medical situation has very comprehensive. As a result we have never worried about their safety, health or wellbeing. The staff are very friendly and my parents are very settled, happy and content."

"Caldy Manor Care Home is an excellent care home. The staff are exceptional. My mum and dad lived at Caldy for the last 2 years. My dad passed away last week and the staff could not have been more helpful and loving to my mum and the rest of the family. The Caldy Manor staff have become family to my mum. I live in New Zealand and I know my mum is in the very best possible place. I would recommend Caldy Manor 110%!"

"I was impressed with the genuineness of the care and how deeply it was embedded in the culture. My impression was that this caring attitude was so strong it would survive a change at the senior leadership level. An example was the tenderness with which a carer held and stroked the hand of a very immobile lady. Wow! It was not the only example of this kind. The compassion came shining through."

"My brother and his wife were living in Yorkshire and they came to the Caldy Manor in April 2012. They had been living in their own home, with some help. My brother was diagnosed with dementia about 12months before they came to Caldy Manor. My brother had had a fall and broken his hip, during the time he was in hospital, his wife, my sister in law, stayed with us in Wirral. They only have one son, who lives in America, he requested I find them a care home in Wirral, for them to have the support of my family. Caldy Manor, at present, is not as good as it was in 2012."

"The care and nurturing both my parents receive is extraordinarily good. They are treated with respect, (which is paramount) subjected to high levels of communication and guided when making choices. The activities stimulate them and keep them content. A heartfelt thank you. We could not have found anywhere better."

"Caldy Manor, on the Wirral, is a warm and friendly place with excellent attentive staff. My mother has a lovely room overlooking beautiful gardens. She feels safe and well cared for with new friends made and activities to do. Her condition has improved since living at Caldy Manor these last 12 months and I am pleased that she is no longer lonely and now more content. I can fully recommend Caldy Manor."

"I have had a very restful week doing nothing! It has been a learning experience realising how selfless the staff are when dealing with all the residents and also I have learnt a lot about folk who can no longer cope on their own."

"This was a very hard decision for us as a family and the staff at the home couldn't be more supportive to not only mum but us as a family. Mum found it hard to settle at first but the care of the staff helped her to settle in well. It is a friendly, warm home and home is what it is for mum now. The rooms are well kept and clean and very comfortable. We are happy with our decision."

"Caldy Manor is set in peaceful surroundings with lovely gardens and a large terrace. The rooms are comfortable and the home has good facilities and a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The staff are kind, considerate and caring and I am very happy with the choice we have made for my father who needs care as he is now quite frail."

"Caldy Manor is in a beautiful old building set in landscaped gardens overlooking the River Dee. In September 2016 I needed to find respite care for my 88-year-old mother on Wirral. The manager went beyond the call of duty by offering to drive to North Wales to assess her, a round trip of 180 miles! Within days my mother was admitted to Caldy Manor and is now a resident there. We are both grateful to the kind, friendly and dedicated staff for the professional care she is receiving. As a result, I can fully recommend Caldy Manor."

"Mum and dad went to Caldy Manor in August 2014 and were made very welcome - they settled in as well as can be expected - with such a life changing experience. We lost mum this January and I feel that everybody at Caldy Manor have helped dad tremendously. I go to see dad at least 3/4 times a week so I do feel I am in a positive position to be aware of how residents are treated - always with dignity. As expected I have had a few concerns and I find the manager and deputy very willing and helpful, and feel assured that they will do everything to put things right - even if not immediately. All the seniors and staff are very approachable. The staff turnover has been exceptionally high over the last 1 and a half years and I hope we can go through a more settled period. One of my concerns has been 'stimulation' and entertainment, these areas are being actioned positively with new initiatives and a new staff member."

"Very impressed with the high standard of care and the integrity of the staff. The manager was always open and available and the nurses were wonderful and caring with all the residents; always willing to sit and listen. The chef went beyond his duty of care to accommodate the changing dietary needs of those in his care. Overall; we remain very impressed and grateful we have our patients in such a trusting environment."

"Barchester Caldy Manor is an amazing care home. Beautiful environment, wonderful gardens and spotlessly clean. The staff are so patient and kind, all the time. Nothing is too much trouble. They know the residents well and always have time for a chat and a laugh. The food is very good- with a good choice at every meal."

"This is, without doubt, the most impressive home from among the 18 I contacted/visited when looking for appropriate medium-term respite for my 86 year old dad. The settings are fantastic, every single member of staff that I have met are genuinely interested in dad's welfare and well-being and the facilities are excellent. Caldy Manor represents excellent value for money and has the added reassurance of good ratings by the Care Quality Commission. In addition, the weekly 'surgery' held at the home by the local GP, as well as the determination of the staff to ensure that all external health care providers fulfil their duties ensures piece of mind - not least because prior to dad's stay, trying to co-ordinate, chase or manage his health needs from among the various providers was almost impossible. Dad, who has previously been averse to the idea of a care home, is happy, settled and enjoying his time at Caldy Manor."

"I am very pleased with the care for my mother (91) and my father (95). They share a room and every provision has been made for them. The staff are friendly and professional. They are treated with respect and patience. No problem is too much and they get excellent care. The manager is always available and have been so helpful with the financial aspect of their care. I am delighted and relieved they are at Barchester Caldy Manor."

"My Mum has been in Caldy Manor now for 2 years she has Alzheimer's. Although initially this was a difficult decision we could not have been happier with the care we have received. The staff are outstanding, kind and thoughtful - nothing is too much trouble. All residents have their hair done weekly and there is entertainment on a daily basis. In the warmer weather the residents can be found outside eating ice lollies and enjoying the lovely gardens. The atmosphere is friendly and happy and you can always help yourselves to a cup of tea or stay for lunch or dinner. I feel really lucky that my Mum is here at Caldy I feel that her care is excellent and the little touches throughout the home, flowers etc make it a lovely warm welcoming home. Smells lovely and your welcome anytime at all. As a Nurse I feel that I can recommend Caldy both as a professional but most importantly as a daughter."

"To find a care home, showing compassion and dignity for ones loved one, is of paramount importance. I have found this to be the case at Caldy Manor, where the caring staff and management, always on hand to listen and help with any questions a relative may wish to raise. My husband is at present receiving respite care, with a view to longer term care."

"I visit Caldy Manor regularly every week. I find the staff are wonderful with the residents. When I come to visit they always have a smile and say hello, and sometime ask would I like to stay for lunch. I think the menu is very good with a very good choice of food which is always very tasty and very well presented. I think they would go along way to find staff like them."
