Activities at Brookfield Care Home

As part of the homes 75th VE Day celebrations. Residents enjoyed a ‘high tea’ served throughout the home as they sat in their favourite spots, with current restrictions in place it did not deter our residents from enjoying a Vintage Afternoon High Tea in the home as part of the 75th celebrations.

A friend of the home kindly provided the traditional fare of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, and a selection of home-made cakes, all served on vintage China—delicious! 

Brookfield would like to thank Ann for her generosity and thought during this current period.

Residents of Brookfield have been busy making, which they have displayed along the home's conservatory window. The idea is that members of community display rainbows in their windows so that children can go ‘rainbow spotting’ when out for their exercise with family. The colourful displays are brightening up everyone’s day! 

This activity took place before the coronavirus lockdown.

The residents at Brookfield recently welcomed neighbour, Ziggy,who often pops into the home to visit residents. Ziggy visits the home regularly and spends a few hours meeting all the residents. Pet therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also increase self-esteem and improve social skills, so everyone was absolutely delighted to have them along. Ziggy is very beneficial to those who spend time in their rooms and find her a great comfort.

Elizabeth was joined by staff, and other residents for a champagne reception at Brookfield. Guests enjoyed a special birthday that was sent from Luxembourg by Elizabeth's daughter. 

Elizabeth, who is originally from Grappenhall, was married to Fred for many years and has 3 children. She now lives here at Brookfield, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.

The birthday girl said she is to be spoilt all day and is looking forward to lots of chocolates and birthday cake. Elizabeth enjoyed watching videos of her grandchildren, singing Happy Birthday to her, as relatives and friends were not able to join her due to the current situation across the country.

Tea Lovers at Brookfield have taken part in a fundraising event to raise awareness for Dementia UK. The home organised a ‘Time for a Cuppa’ day and held a tea party to show support for Dementia UK and the Admiral Nurses who work closely with those experience a dementia raising funds for this great cause.

We wanted to pay special tribute to the people living with dementia, but also those who dedicate their lives to caring for people with dementia. Carers make a huge difference to the lives of the individuals they look after, and we wanted to make sure we acknowledged their hard work.

We have raised £23.00 for Dementia UK and toasted the occasion with a pot of the finest Darjeeling, Earl Grey for everyone to enjoy.

Residents from Brookfield enjoyed a live music performance from Serenade at local hotel, Statham Hall along with members of the community. Serenade are a small group of dedicated ladies who all have something in common, they like singing!

The group has grown since inception in 1995 and regularly perform to audiences in the community which leaves their audiences singing along with them. The hotel provided their guests with a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the show.

Leader of Serenade said  "It has been a great pleasure to meet so many people, having an opportunity to chat with our guests following our singing performance; our group always look forward to getting out into the community and today was no different.

General Manager, Sarah Nolan said, “Our residents had a wonderful trip out and singing along with the wonderful performers. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at Brookfield as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one was one of our favourites.”
