Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Residents benefitting from therapy dolls

Residents enjoy doll therapy at Boroughbridge Manor and have been spending some quality time with their therapy dolls who resemble newborn babies. Neil Todd, General Manager said: “The dolls are greatly loves by all of the residents and give a nice sense of belonging and peacefulness in the home and it is great so see our residents interacting with them”

Halloween fun

Jack –o-lanterns ,pumpkin carving is a Halloween favourite for children and adults, turnip or other root vegetables can be used to, but the residents chose a pumpkin it was a lot of fun for all from hollowing it out to choosing the design and trying to carving it, hard work ready for Halloween

Lest we forget

Here at Boroughbridge Manor the residents and staff have come together and created a Remembrance Day display to show  that on Remembrance Day, we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought so hard to achieve.

The residents and staff enjoyed creating this during which they shared stories with one another, and it goes to show how lucky ‘the younger generation’ actually are. Some take things for granted and forget how much the war hero’s did and sacrificed.

This is why as a home we wanted to do such a memorable display, to show how much we appreciate everything that people have and continue to fight for. It’s quite emotional looking at it because so much hard work from the residents and staff has gone into this. Everyone listened to one another’s ideas, and put this together. We hope you enjoy it as much as they do

Bringing the outside in

Bringing the outside in has never been more important during these times, as the weather is getting colder and the days darker, we spend more time inside safe and warm.

Flower arranging seemed the perfect activity for the residents as it stimulates a number of senses and brings out creativity.

Getting creative for World Mental Health Day

The residents at Boroughbridge Manor care home took part in a number of activities throughout World Mental Health day from  arts, crafts, painting  and colouring,

Everyone also enjoyed discussions about the different emotions -  feelings, moods, fears and sadness but also fun and happiness. It was a good reminiscence session about life and the importance of healthy minds and how important it is to us all
