Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2017, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

I have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Tech, Tea & Melodies

Local groups including Boroughbridge Manor Care Home, Right at Home Harrogate, the Gracious Street Methodist Church and the Knaresborough Connectors came together to host a special community event which took place at the Gracious Street Methodist Church in Knaresborough on Monday 25th November at 1pm.

Starting at 1pm visiting seniors and members of the community were able to take part in and ask their tech questions and problems which were answered by the experts, before taking part in an information seminar from each of the groups taking part.

Finally, at 2pm we welcomed Singer Performer – the glamorous Emma James as we concluded the afternoon with an hour of musical entertainment, refreshing beverages and tasty cake, rounding off a wonderful afternoon enjoyed by all.

Holly & the Ivy

Staff and residents across our homes were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations.

Fraud & Scam Seminar

Staff, residents and the local community came together at the home as we were joined by Bethan and Sophie from the Ripon Branch of the Yorkshire Building Society as they held a workshop to share key tips on how to avoid being scammed. A topical issue that often affects the elderly, the experts demonstrated how to recognise a scam, and the correct way to respond and report them.

The talk discussed how scams are disguised, and can occur in person, by phone, by post, by email, and even through social media. Guests also shared their scamming experiences and recovery strategies

Coffee with a Coppa

Residents and members of the community in Boroughbridge were delighted to welcome PCSO Jack Gudger and PC Connor Coulthurst from the local police force to join Boroughbridge Manor Care Home for their ‘Coffee with a Coppa’ event.

PCSO Jack Gudger and PC Connor Coulthurst spoke to the audience about their own career paths, why they wished to join the force and spoke to the group about the latest goings on from within the town, before taking questions from the audience.

For one resident in particular the visit brought back lots of fond memories of her father who was Chief Constable of the Strathclyde Police Force.

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.
