Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Pony Therapy

We had a lovely morning today with a special visit from KL PONY Therapy to put a smile on everyone's faces.

This fully inclusive activity allows for our residents to enjoy the sensory visit in either the communal areas, in their rooms or when they're on the go (as they often are!). Our residents enjoy seeing the ponies when they visit, learning all about their backgrounds and enjoy feeding them a polo or two!

Valentine virtual event

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

Home celebrates Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Borouhbridge Manor Care home in Boroughbridge welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.  Head chef Tony cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

International Flower Day

Today we celebrated International Flower Day in style, a great way in mid-winter to bring joy and happiness into the home.

Our residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the morning including a flower arranging activity which everyone really enjoyed. It also gave us a chance to start planning what blooms we want in the garden this year to fill it full of colour!

We can't wait for spring!

The collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

Coffee Morning

Yesterdays baking did not go to waste and was used for our monthly coffee morning treat where residents and the team had not only one but TWO slices of cake with their cuppas!  Remember you are all welcome to join us on the third Thursday of the month for our coffee mornings.

This afternoon was all about the Scrabble, as we remain warm and cosy inside from this frosty weather.  Audrey took the lead early and bested us all with her amazing word finding skills!

We're All Mad Here

Today we celebrated Oomph Wellness Dry January with a Mad Hatter's Mocktail and Tea Party!

Whether you're savouring mocktails or exploring the world of non-alcoholic alternatives, Dry January becomes a personal exploration of well-being, resilience, and the triumph of a clear mind.

Residents and staff sat back and enjoyed sweet treats whilst mixologists; Shelbie and Leoni created 3 delicious mocktails 'Dormouse Daiquiri's, White Rabbit Colada's and a Pocket Watch Punch.

Here's to a month filled with clarity, health, and the empowering decision to experience life on the dry side!
