Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

International Sherry Week

Residents of Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View enjoyed an afternoon tipple to celebrate International Sherry Week.  There were many lovers of this popular drink!

The afternoon celebrations began with a toast as they sampled and taste tested a variety of sherry’s.  Residents also enjoyed watching a short YouTube video on sherry making which everyone found fascinating before a fun-filled drinks and food themed quiz in the homes beautiful lounge.

10-years long service celebrated

A hospitality team member at Iddenshall Hall has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Clare Kelly, started at Barchester in November 2011 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Patricia McCormack, General Manager of Iddenshall Hall said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Clare, She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Iddenshall Hallwhen I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Clare!”

English National Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

Armistice Day

Iddenshall Hall commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent.  They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, residents took part in therapeutic activities making poppy displays and listening to old wartime songs.

Patricia McCormack General Manager at said: “We have many residents with personal ties to the military and many who have experienced conflict either at home or abroad so it was important to us to mark November 11th and honour the contribution of everyone involved in the World Wars and in subsequent conflicts.

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

Halloween inspired cooking demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
