Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Pinch Punch, First Of The Month!

Our Christmas festivities have officially begun at Bedewell Grange! All the residents were given their own advent calendars to enjoy for the countdown to Christmas!

Let the celebrations commence!

Winston Churchill's love affair with Blenheim Palace

Our residents were thrilled to join Antonia Keaney - Blenheim Palace’s Historian for an intriguing virtual talk on Winston Churchill.

The private resources of Blenheim Palace were drawn upon to afford very new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man. During the talk Antonia shared fascinating information about the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the "Greatest Briton": soldier, politician, statesman, painter, writer, orator, family man - and bricklayer!

We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning more about UK’s former Prime Minister.

Christmas Wreath Making

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you Blooming Haus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.

Pamper afternoons at Bedewell Grange

Our beautiful ladies spent the afternoon enjoying a relaxing pamper.

We gave our residents the full spa experience and they loved it!

We created a relaxing atmosphere by playing tranquil music with some lovely scents, it smelt like a real spa. The residents enjoyed a gentle hand massage followed by a fresh polish.

Our pamper sessions are always very popular at Bedewell Grange. Our ladies love to feel pampered and refreshed and we like to do these sessions whenever our ladies want them!

Residents and staff remember the fallen

Bedewell Grange in Hebburn commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent.  They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, residents took part in therapeutic activities including a beautiful live event from the English National Ballet and a live performance from Kayley Cares Vintage Singer.

A resident at Bedewell Grange said: “It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.”

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Residents mark Remembrance Day with English Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a short clip of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

An ENB Company Dancer, recalled their account of performing in the piece and provided context to the themes. To bring this element to a close, some of the specific hand movements from the duet were demonstrated by Jennie Harrington - Artistic Coordinator.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

The session incorporated the national two minute’s silence at 11am to mark the exact time the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War in 1918.
