Activities at Appletree Grange Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly arranging new activities to stimulate and catch the imagination of our residents. From visiting entertainers to a regular craft table to outings on the minibus, there is always something for our residents to keep them entertained. Our Activities Coordinator also takes the time to sit with each resident and go through a life history so they get to know what the likes and dislikes of each individual are and can tailor the activities to suit them. A monthly residents meeting is held to get the views of the residents and to get suggestions from them and their families about what they would like to do and everything that can be done to accommodate their requests is done.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Appletree Grange Care Home
Art Class
What a strange start to the month, no visitors but we still had fun and made the best of our time. We were going to make decorations for St Patrick's day, but residents found it much more fun to enjoy making anything they wanted to with the art materials.
National Bread Making Day
We come to the end of the month celebrating national bread making day. We got round the table, mixed our yeast, water, flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl. Kneading and knocking back the dough and giving it time to rest.
The result was: three lovely tasty rustic loaves of bread which will be enjoyed for supper. Residents have requested having another go when our arms are rested.
Local Nursery Visited Appletree Grange
February got started with an amazing high energy visit from the little movers. Children from the local nursery, aged between 3 and 5, came and sang, danced and played games with the residents. A great time was had by all and we look forward to seeing them all again next month.
Happy Birthday!
Resident Phyllis Lavelle has just celebrated her 104th Birthday! Born in Lamesley, Phyllis is the youngest of 11 children. Phyllis worked as a lady ported at Lamesley train station. She met her Husband Peter at a dance and they had 4 sons together. Phyllis loves musical and Catherine Cookson films, her Husband was Catherine Cookson’s cousin, she also loves the Royal Family. Phyllis states that hard work has kept her going.
Long Service Award
Appletree Grange is proud to present Linda Curry with her 15 year long service award. Linda is a much loved carer for our residents and regularly gets praise from both residents and families. Linda said ‘ Thank you for all your help and support over the years, I love working here’.
A Four-Legged Friend
Appletree Grange was full of animal mischief on recently when Breeze, a local pony came to visit the home after a 15-mile trot with owner, Les.
Residents at Appletree were pleasantly surprised to see their new friend roaming around their entrance.
Activities Coordinator, Kim Pimbley said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitor today. We knew that having Breeze here would be a bit of fun for all our residents. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
