Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Songbird performs medley of hits

Residents at Adlington Manor enjoyed an afternoon of singing with popular local vocalist, Debbie. Debbie performed a medley of show-stopping classics. Residents enjoyed singing along to their favourite songs and dancing the afternoon away. It was great to see everyone getting involved! A great time was had by all, Residents said that Debbie’s voice was beautiful and her performance was a delight to see.

Virtual coffee experience

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Random acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness Day is a day to celebrate and encourage random acts of kindness. Colleagues at Adlington Manor were delighted to receive such a gift from one of their nurses as a way of thanks and they were delicious!

Swing out sister!

Last week our residents marked Mary Quant’s birthday with fun-filled fashion-inspired activities.

Mary Quant is an English fashion designer of youth-oriented styles, responsible in the 1960s for the ‘Chelsea look’ of England and the widespread popularity of the miniskirt and ‘hot pants’.

During the day our residents discussed all things fashion and got involved in a themed quiz, along with mini taking a look at fashion photos and their own creative arts session where they designed their own stylish outfits.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Valentine's inspired cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.

Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

All in all the afternoon was an absolute triumph!

Home enter pudding competition

Residents of Lochduhar are looking forward to celebrating HM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and started their celebrations by coming together to enter Fortnum and Mason Jubilee Pudding competition.

The winning pudding will be an important part of the celebrations marking Her Majesty’s 70 years as Monarch. And the creator of the winning pudding will be invited to be at the center of the celebrations. The recipe will be gifted to The Queen and the public as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. It was a fun afternoon for all!
