Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Life at Woodland View Care Home

Sylvia and Skye

Sylvia and Skye

One of the residents Sylvia has grown up with her affectionate dog named Skye for many years, however, when Sylvia moved in to Woodland View, it was a bit of an ordeal to leave her behind! Woodland View welcomes Skye into the home and what a delight she has made to many of the residents let alone her owner.

We now have a dog that has become part of the Woodland View care home!

Ladies Bowls Gala

Ladies Bowls Gala

A victorious team of local women, HAPPY VALLEY, have come out on top at today’s Ladies Gala Day at the Colchester Indoor Bowls Club, just two days before the world celebrates International Women’s Day.
The trophy was presented to the team by Wendy Twydell, Home Services Advisor at Woodland View Care Home, the Gala sponsor.
Marian Crane, Ronni Simpson, Sheila Howe and Jackie Flatman
The Gala Day saw 24 teams compete for the trophy throughout the afternoon as others from the bowls club and people from the community cheered them on.
Wendy Twydell said: “What a fantastic day! It was one exciting match after another and everyone seemed to be having a great time. It was my honour to present the winners’ trophy to a very deserving team and to be part of an event celebrating talented local sportswomen.”

Double Trouble Perform!

Double Trouble Perform!

One half of the Mother and Daughter singing duo 'Double Trouble' performed to the delight of the residents of Woodland View recently.

Mum was performing on her own on this occasion but that didn't stop residents and staff singing along and dancing to the wide range of tunes that graced the enthusiastic audience.

Woodland View are looking forward to a return visit but next time the complete Mother and Daughter act.

Ned Pepper comes to Woodland View

Ned Pepper comes to Woodland View

What a wonderful thing to see. Residents tapping their feet, clapping their hands, singing a long and in some cases up on their feet dancing!

Woodland View played host to singer Ned Pepper, who sang his way through a whole list of popular songs from across the decades. One of the gentlemen in the audience was moved to tears as the songs clearly brought back memories.

Ned Pepper was accompanied by his wife, who sang her way through a number of classic hits.

The residents were rapturous in their applause at the end and Ned will certainly be invited back to entertain the residents of Woodland View again.

Local Jam Factory Greets the Residents of Woodland View

Local Jam Factory Greets the Residents of Woodland View

We were delighted to enjoy a traditional and homemade afternoon tea at our local jam factory Wilkins and Sons in Tiptree. The factory is very well known across the world providing local jams to the community, all of the residents came away with a jar or two purchased from their very own shop, what a delight to see so many smiles on faces when they were allowed to taste the jams. A very enjoyable day was had by all! Where will it be next?

Feather Ball Dinner Dance

Feather Ball Dinner Dance

As one of our communities has been named as Tom Bowdidge Boulevard, we all wanted to support in raising some money for their charity, Tom Bowdidge Foundation.

The Tom Bowdidge Foundation is a charitable foundation, founded on 28th February 2014 and launched by his parents, Richard and Nikki on the 20th birthday anniversary of Tom Bowdidge. Tom died of a desmoplastic small round cell tumour and extensive peritoneal disease in October 2013, at the age of 19. The Foundation is headquartered in Colchester and its goal is to raise funds to support research projects and to provide physical and emotional support to teenagers and young people with cancer.

Attending this evening event was a team from Woodland View, we were greeted with champagne on arrival, music playing throughout the evening alongside a casino, an auction and a raffle, also to be wined and dined in such splendor and dressed up with our finest attire, black tie for the men and for us women it was a great opportunity to get dressed up in our best frocks.

What an evening we all had at this event, shared by over 250 guests that attended!
