Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Life at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Theatre inspired virtual talk

We had a lovely time joining Angela Cobbin for a theatre-inspired virtual talk about her book ‘My Name is Not Wigs’.  ‘My Name Is Not Wigs’ is the ultimate read for fans of witty behind-the-curtains memoirs, especially those with a penchant for the bright lights of stage and screen: tears and accolades aplenty!

History of Cliveden

We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.

The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.

Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.

The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.

NESCAFE virtual tour

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Chinese New Year

We welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY dragons and made beautiful lanterns to mark the day.

We all enjoyed some delicious taste testing, with a range of Chinese dishes from Sweet & Sour to Spring Rolls.

Balloon fun!

Here at Woodhorn Park we are getting ready to follow this year’s Winter Olympic Games in Beijing running between 4th and 20th of February.

Residents enjoyed watching the amazing opening ceremony, as we took part in themed sporting activities of our own, showing that some of us definitely have a competitive side.

In the next couple of weeks, our residents will get involved in a variety of winter activities, as they watch performers from around the world compete in a number of winter disciplines such as ski, figure skating, snowboarding and more, we even thought about creating our very own Bobsleigh team!

Winter Olympics

Residents and staff at Woodhorn Park care home in Ashington have been cheering on Team GB throughout the Beijing Winter Olympics. Everyone at the home has loved seeing all of our amazing Olympians progress.

Sports fans at Woodhorn Park were delighted to be able to watch this year’s Winter Games hot on the heels of all the excitement from Tokyo last year.  Residents and staff have had a brilliant time getting together to watch all of the different sporting fixtures from snowboarding to ski jumping, figure skating to bobsleigh, curling to ice hockey. They have tried their hand at “New Age Curling” competition heated up with residents enjoying having a taste of the Olympics at home.
