Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Lauren

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Lauren, and I am one of the Activities Coordinators here at Woodhorn Park.

My job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. I want to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

World Mental Health Day

Here at Woodhorn Park, our residents enjoyed a variety of sessions, including relaxation, sensory sessions and chats with staff to support mental health.

Residents took to making Worry Worms as part of a knitting session which will be displayed in the home for charity.

Some of our residents gathered together to share their advice and thoughts for staying positive and the importance of positive thinking, which was a great success.

World Card Making Day

Today we celebrated World Card Making Day with fun-filled activities and themed sessions.

Our residents spent the day making, decorating and writing cards to their loved ones.

Everyone was encouraged to work on their skills, some residents preferred  to write short poems or creative texts.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all and all the cards turned out beautifully.

Fly me to the moon

Residents and staff enjoyed a group activity to explore space with their virtual space reality trip using our VR headset.

Residents were transported to space visiting planets from Mars and Jupiter and following their moonlight trip residents enjoyed tasty treats such as ‘moon’ shaped cheese, space rock candy and flying saucers.  It was a fun filled afternoon!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Staff and residents at Woodhorn Park held a charity coffee morning and bake sale on 27th September 2024 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can. Residents enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives, and members of the local community.

Woodhorn Woofs

What a fabulous day we had holding “Woodhorn Woofs” - Residents made rosettes and doggy bags for the winners. It was a fun filled afternoon as we welcomed pet loving families and friends for our doggy competition.  We would like to thank everyone who came along with their canine friends.

World Maritime Day

Today residents enjoyed an educational and interesting visit to Newbiggin Maritime Centre to celebrate World Maritime day. A fabulous visit highlighting the importance of safety at sea especially in an era of significant transformation and new risks.
