Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Friendship Day

Team members and residents at Westwood House celebrated their Friendship Day on Friday 31st July. Some residents wrote cards to be sent out to friends or children from the local community, others helped preparing the festive food for the day.

Friendship Day was celebrated by the residents talking about friendship and what it means to them and they were writing their friendship cards to be sent out to their friends and families and the local community groups, who we have not been able to visit for a few months now.

Nurses Day

We had lots of fun celebrating Nurses Day here at Westwood House!

Afternoon Tea Delivery

On Friday 26th June, we delivered a lovely afternoon tea to Sandra, whose Dad used to be a resident with us. Her Mum, Doreen, is still at home, but we stay in regular contact with her and her two lovely daughters.

We thought it would be nice to arrange a lovely tea to show we are still thinking about them all. It was delivered by Robert, our Host, and Eve, our Activities Coordinator. They were absolutely delighted with the tea!

We also delivered a lovely afternoon tea to the team at Wells Park Surgery, who we work very closely with. They were so grateful for the lovely tea and we are hoping that everyone got some to share. This was our way of saying thank you for their continued hard work and commitment to us all at Westwood House, particularly for their exemplary care to our residents.

The Magic Table

Residents have been really enjoying our new Magic Table. Our staff team on Memory Lane and our Activities Coordinator have all been encouraging residents to join in and explore the interactive games available to them. The table is situated in our lovely refurbished quiet room, where residents can spend quiet time reading, using the table or just relaxing.

Fun in the Sun

Jean and her lifelong friends enjoyed a visit in our beautiful garden. The weather was absolutely amazing; it was one of the hottest days of the year so far!

Reunited!

This is a lovely photo of our resident, Veronica, enjoying a lovely visit with her son Nick. The weather was absolutely glorious and both enjoyed their long awaited visit.
