Activities at Washington Grange Care Home

Our group and individual activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for. We try to organise a mix of activities and events that reflect the interests and capabilities of residents for anyone and everyone to participate in. Our evenings of afternoon entertainment is enjoyed by residents and their families, who are all encouraged to sing along and dance. We try to involve our local community; members of the clergy often visit to hold lovely afternoon church services for residents. It is essential that our team are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those we support through person-centred activities, and that everyone has a fun and active time here at Washington Grange.

,

A splash of colour

Residents from Washington Grange often get together to enjoy their regular art and craft sessions which supports their creative ideas and encourages different methods of Art. Residents have been busy showing their own style of colourful designs.

This class is particularly popular with all and everyone thoroughly enjoys a get together with a cuppa and a slice of delicious cake.   Residents enjoy the colouring and crafting as find it very calming and therapeutic. It enhances mindfulness and promotes a positive mental well-being.

Residents have fun with the magic table

Residents at Washington Grange have been spending some time playing with the magic table.

Both Residents and colleagues at the home get a great deal of fun out of playing with the magic table.

The table projects light out of it so Residents can create pictures using the images that are on the table. It is a fantastic piece of equipment and is very popular, the Residents really enjoy playing the games on it.

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Washington Grange were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Washington Grange head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

V&A Dundee - Ocean Liners

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Washington Grange were treated to a photographic tour and talk about the era of ocean travel by V&A Dundee Curator, Charlotte Hale.  The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.

V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum, it showcases Scotland’s outstanding design achievements and features world-class exhibitions alongside the permanent Scottish Design Galleries, and a changing programme of commissions, events and activities.

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Washington Grange were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.
