Activities at Washington Grange Care Home

Our group and individual activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for. We try to organise a mix of activities and events that reflect the interests and capabilities of residents for anyone and everyone to participate in. Our evenings of afternoon entertainment is enjoyed by residents and their families, who are all encouraged to sing along and dance. We try to involve our local community; members of the clergy often visit to hold lovely afternoon church services for residents. It is essential that our team are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those we support through person-centred activities, and that everyone has a fun and active time here at Washington Grange.

Life at Washington Grange Care Home

Pet therapy

Dogs are proven stress reducers! Who doesn’t love a spending time with a friendly dog? Here at Washington Grange our Activities Coordinator Laura Cartwright brings in her 8 year old dog (Shih Tzu cross Bichon Frise) called Harvey every Monday. Our residents love to see Harvey inside the home and will spend the day giving Harvey lots of cuddles, treats and playing games with him.

Valentine's celebrations

Valentine’s Day at Washington Grange was filled with flowers, cards, balloons and decorations as we celebrated the day of love in style with sweet treats and gifts.   We marked the day by baking cakes for our Valentine’s Day tea party. We had our strawberries, and marshmallows at the ready to dip into our chocolate fountain which later exploded over our Manager Paula’s leg nevertheless residents laughed and tucked right into the fountain.

On Tuesday 15th February Kev The Care Home Singer performed his Valentines Day Show. Our residents had a fantastic afternoon singing and dancing to all-time favourite love songs.

Swing out sister!

Last week our residents marked Mary Quant’s birthday with fun-filled fashion-inspired activities.

Mary Quant is an English fashion designer of youth-oriented styles, responsible in the 1960s for the ‘Chelsea look’ of England and the widespread popularity of the miniskirt and ‘hot pants’.

During the day our residents discussed all things fashion and got involved in a themed quiz, along with mini taking a look at fashion photos and their own creative arts session where they designed their own stylish outfits.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Valentine's inspired cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Year of the Tiger

We welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY dragons and made beautiful lanterns to mark the day.

We all enjoyed some music from Greater China, watched last year’s celebrations and had a discussion about the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac. It was a fun day.
