Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home
On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.
Sarah Smith
I have worked at Wadhurst Manor in many different roles since December 2011. Prior to this I worked as a nurse, exercise teacher and and preschool supervisor. I have 4 lovely children who are now grown up and travelling the world. My hobbies include visiting my children, singing, dancing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, reading and amateur dramatics.I find enabling residents to remain active and engaged both physically and mentally is a wonderfully rewarding job. I particularly enjoy working on our memory lane units becoming immersed in their realities, enabling them to live their best lives by concentrating on what they can do not what they can't.

Life at Wadhurst Manor Care Home
Ruskin Ensemble
Wadhurst Manor was treated to a concert of classical and popular music by the Ruskin Ensemble, which consisted of a classical guitarist and violinist.
The concert was courtesy of Music in Hospitals & Care, a wonderful Charity that promotes joy through music. It was a truly interactive concert, with residents singing, tapping their feet, clapping and accompanying some tunes on percussion instruments.
It was clear that everyone really enjoyed the afternoon! We would like to say a big thank you to The Chalk Cliff Trust for their generosity, which made this concert possible.
Music Therapy Christmas Party
There was lots of singing, dancing, smiles and laughter when Ryan came in for an afternoon of karaoke.
Sacred Heart School
Another highlight of the Christmas calendar at Wadhurst Manor was when Sacred Heart School came in to sing for us. Residents enjoyed their enthusiasm and selection of Christmas songs and joined in with many of them.
Afterwards, the children mingled and chatted with the residents and were treated to a dance lesson by Pat, which they loved. Pat also presented a sweetie ring as a thank you to the children that some of the residents had helped to make.
Carols by Candlelight
What an amazing evening we had; Wadhurst Brass Band returned to join us for the very popular 'Carols by Candlelight'. This year, it was made particularly special as Stonegate Amateur Dramatics leant us all their candles to enhance the evening. After a great selection of carols – old and new – which everyone joined in with, we all enjoyed chatting over mince pies and mulled wine.
Manager's Cocktail Party
What a start to the Christmas festivities; the Manager's Cocktail Party was a great success, with wonderful cocktails chosen by the residents, amazing canapés and great company. Magician, Janet Clair, one of the first lady magicians in the magic circle, was also on hand to amaze residents with some close-up magic.
Christmas Cake Competition
Residents got involved with stirring the Christmas cake; some took their job very seriously and others found it very amusing.
