Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home

Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home

Egg-stravaganza

The Easter bunny arrived early for all staff of Threshfield Court when they were surprised by the generosity of their local Morrison’s store, who kindly delivered Easter eggs for every staff member over the weekend. Colleagues were on hand to accept the beautiful boxes filled with a selection of eggs all shapes and sizes, sure to satisfy any chocolate lover!

As always, we were all looking forward to Easter. It’s such a nice time of the year – the staff and residents loved all the colourful Easter eggs and we made sure Easter was extra special for our residents during this challenging period for everyone.

Supporting Local Workers

This story starts with a local hospital asking an engineer who does 3D printing as a hobby if he could print 3D visors to protect their NHS and social care staff in their fight against Covid-19.  The engineer could. Within a day, he had found a template, printed a prototype and had it reviewed and trialled by the hospital.

Less than 2 weeks later, 13 of his colleagues have joined him in the printing activity. The team keeps growing in numbers as more people are inspired by this amazing activity, and offer support. All engineers, many are printing visors all day, every day, at home, in their own time, using their home hobby printers.

A week ago, the team started fund raising. As the demand for PPE grows, the money raised is all being used to buy filament material to print the masks, and also to buy new printers, to increase capacity. All of the money raised goes into making more visors.   Another 4 colleagues are using their own time to fund raise, manage requests and distribute masks to those who need them.

In less than 2 weeks, circa 550 visors have been printed and delivered to care homes, hospitals, GP surgeries, schools, pharmacists and undertakers across East Lancashire and North Yorkshire.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Residents of Threshfield Court have been busy making rainbows, which they have displayed at the entrance of the home. Resident, Alec, was also delighted to read correspondence and art work from some of the home's local schools: Upper Wharfedale School and Grassington and Cracoe Primary School. Alec really enjoyed his time looking and reading all the correspondence. It truly is community spirit at its finest.

The idea is that members of community display rainbows in their windows so that children can go ‘rainbow spotting’ when out for their exercise with family. The colourful displays are brightening up everyone’s day! The Facebook group has over 90,000 members and the home is delighted to be part of the community spirit.

Residents Go for Gold

Residents and staff at Threshfield Court laced up their trainers and warmed-up for a fun-filled afternoon of games. Staff and residents showed their friendly competitive streak as they took to their marks in a selection of games, an interactive game of parachutes, and let their fun-filled competitive streak come out to play!

It is a great opportunity for all our residents to engage in a bit of fun and exercise, or to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea and read the many letters that we have received from our local community.

We always encourage our residents to keep active. With spring on the way, we had a great opportunity to have some indoor fun before we can get outside to enjoy our gardens. Our residents and their guests really enjoyed today and it was lovely to see so many of them getting involved. It reminded all of us of when we were kids at school!

This activity took place before the coronavirus lockdown.

A Bit of Gardening

Green-fingered residents at Threshfield Court have been busy showcasing their blooming good gardening skills by sowing seeds and growing vegetables as part of the home’s gardening therapy project, which they started in the autumn.

From ripe tomatoes to delicious radishes, residents who have always had a love of gardening have been busy coming together to create their very own garden oasis. The blossoming get-togethers have proved to be a real hit within the home, and is also a valuable, thought-provoking activity. These planters have now been placed on our patio and are being enjoyed by our residents. It is just so nice to see the varied colours and the beautiful selection.

Residents Enjoy Pet Therapy with Luna

The residents at Threshfield Court recently welcomed back a beautiful dog in for pet therapy. Luna visits the home regularly and spends a few hours meeting all the residents. Pet therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also increase self-esteem and improve social skills, so everyone was absolutely delighted to have them along. Luna is very beneficial to those who spend time in their rooms and find her a great comfort.

This particular activity is part of the homes “meaningful activities”  where residents have access to a huge variety of activities, all tailored to our residents likes and dislikes. Activities coordinator, Denise Foster says “We are delighted that we were able to get a PAT dog to visit us regularly as our residents really enjoy it so much! I’m sure Luna did too, she is getting plenty of love and cuddles!”
