Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Natasha Rubin

Activities Coordinator

G’day! My name is Natasha and I am the activities lead here at Strachan House. I am Australian born and bred, braving the dark and the cold here in Edinburgh to enjoy the beautiful nature and wonderful people! I have a background in team management and design. I have always loved working with people and have a strong interest in mental health and well-being, recently embarking on a psychology degree with an interest in specialising in Art Therapy. I am working with the team to create a vibrant, engaging and person-centred home.

Life at Strachan House Care Home

Afternoon Tea with friends

During these difficult times, our Head Chef and kitchen team ensure our spirits are kept high with delicious food and tasty treats. At the moment, we’re unable to enjoy our usual coffee mornings with the community but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy afternoon tea and a natter together, accompanied by a scone or two!

Afternoon Coffee Catch Ups

At Strachan House it’s lovely that we have so many nice places to visit nearby. This time we had a trip out to Craigleith for some tasty bites and a delicious coffee at Costa. It's a great way to have a natter and catch up together.

Ross celebrates 20-years’ service at Strachan House

Ross Learmont, now carer started at Barchester in 2000 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years in a variety of roles from chef, housekeeping and now carer.

Eileen Crawford,  General Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 20 years of loyal service with Ross. He has demonstrated his dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Strachan House when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Ross!”

Happiness comes with a spoon!

Our residents love a wee jaunt out for lunch, this time we dug in to delights at our local Toby Carvery and indulged in some ice cream for dessert.

Parachuting with George & Jayne

George and Jayne from 1-2-1 Fitness help us keep healthy with regular visits to our home. They’re both experienced trainers and our classes are always filled with fun and laughter. This week we had a ball playing parachutes which is great for improving agility and strength. Look forward to seeing you both soon!

Burns Night Capers at Strachan House

Strachan House care home in Edinburgh prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and entertainment from Jack High and capers continued well into the wee small hours!

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities which included Scottish dancing, addressing the haggis, whiskey tasting, poem recital  to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the Haggis.

General Manager, Eileen Crawford at Strachan House thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of whisky tasting, singing with a medley of burns’ songs, dessert making by concocting a tipsy laird for afters.
