Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Natasha Rubin

Activities Coordinator

G’day! My name is Natasha and I am the activities lead here at Strachan House. I am Australian born and bred, braving the dark and the cold here in Edinburgh to enjoy the beautiful nature and wonderful people! I have a background in team management and design. I have always loved working with people and have a strong interest in mental health and well-being, recently embarking on a psychology degree with an interest in specialising in Art Therapy. I am working with the team to create a vibrant, engaging and person-centred home.

Preparing for the King's Coronation

Residents are very much into the spirit of our upcoming Kings coronation. With a week full of themed royal activities, we tried our hand at some floral tributes. Lots of ideas were contemplated but the winner was this star of the show. Named Coronation In A Cup our residents showed their budding green fingers and designed their centre piece that would surely be fit for a King. Amazing and very beautiful work.

Another fun visit from Cargilfield Nursery

Community is central to all we do here at Strachan House. It ensures our residents build connections and are able to be given to the opportunity to maintain those connections in the community that they live. One of our engagement successes is Cargilfield Nursery who are regular visitors to our home. Seeing residents and the children working together as well as developing friendships is a wonderful thing.

Gone Fishing 23 - A Night with the girls

Our Gone Fishing 23 struck again today. With a combination of what was important to Audrey and of course her love of  curries the team jumped into action and recreated a special moment for her with their Gone Fishing 23 project. Audrey can always be heard reminiscing about her nights out with the girls and held fond memories of her times when her friends and her would get together. The surprise on both their faces when Audrey realised she was in for the night of her life.

The team did some community engagement with a local business in Blackhall called The Cove. With a little help ,local Indian restranteer Jahedd upon hearing her story was quick to jump on board and support the team in making Audrey enjoy a stroll back down memory lane. Audrey had a fantastic time and said it was a night to remember . “just like the good old days”. A big thankyou to all the support we get from our community to make magic moments like this happen.

National Tea Day

Residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon celebrating National Tea Day with family and friends over a Tea Dance hosted by the home. It’s always lovely to see the residents enjoying life with their families and events such as these ensures that life in the home is fulling and enriched. We always have such amazing support from our families and local community and today was no different.

The Grand National at Strachan House

Strachan House stopped at nothing for the Grand National . Our residents enjoyed a full on fitness session to help train our Strachan House Sprinters. What fun they had putting the horses through their paces with getting them ready for the big race on Saturday. Our residents had so much fun and the laughter was nonstop, especially when Mr T Rex a home favourite also turned up . Somehow we don’t think racing was on his mind, more how tasty one of the horses would be. However, no dinosaurs or horses were harmed in the event and everyone had a brilliant as we all put each other through our paces.

Enjoying a Scrapbooking Session

What better way to take a walk down memory lane than with a session of scrapbooking. Residents at Strachan House enjoyed designing and filling their books with memories that are important to them. Through sessions such as these we can use Reminsence as a tool to gain valuable information about our residents lives, their achievements, desires and what’s important to them. From there we can ensure every resident gets the person centred care that they deserve.
