Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Pancake Day

We were busy celebrating Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, with a variety of delicious pancakes and yummy toppings.

Our residents had a wonderful day, filled with pancake-inspired activities, they prepared homemade pancakes and decorated them with fresh fruit, berries, syrup and chocolate.

It was a fun day, enjoyed by all.

Real Bread Week

We marked the annual, international celebration of real bread and the people who make it. We had a great afternoon tasting different types of breads. From tiger, cheese and seeded. With a selection of toppings to alongside them from butter, jam and marmalade.

Apart from tasting the delicious breads, our residents learnt interesting facts about the history of bread and watched videos about the magic of bread making. Alongside talking about their own memories of their families making bread when they were young.

Flower arranging demo

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

The Year of the Dragon

We welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.

The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar. Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a lovely Chinese meal prepared by our chef. We all enjoyed some music from Greater China, watched last year’s celebrations and had a discussion about the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac.

It was a fun day.

Love is in the air at South Grange

General Manager, Catherine Lappin, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day celebrating and receiving gifts from loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”

Much needed fresh air

This week the activity staff and some residents wrapped up warm and headed out into the cold for a walk around our beautiful nearby estate for some much needed fresh air after being stuck in doors for a few weeks. One of our residents Alan was delighted to join us for this walk and enjoyed reminiscing about his days of walking his two German shepherd dogs through the woods as this was his favourite place to let them off their lead and roam free. Alan is looking forward to getting out more into the fresh air especially when the sunshine comes out too.
