Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Coffee Shop Outing

The activity staff accompanied three of our ladies to a local coffee shop in Monifieth, Bowman’s Coffee House. We had a selection of cakes which was washed down with a delicious cup of tea/coffee. We all agreed the staff were lovely but the cakes were even better.

We finished our afternoon off with a wander along the high street and went window shopping.

Resident Barbara said ‘this was a lovely afternoon and a nice early birthday treat for me. I haven’t been out window shopping for almost two years’.

Gentlemen’s Club

At South Grange we’ve had an influx of new residents in the last month. So we held our afternoon gentlemen’s club which was a good chance for everyone to mingle and get to know other each other. This afternoon wasn’t only for the gents as we had our ladies along to join in the fun too. We had lots of activities on offer such as good old dominos, darts, connect 4 and target shooting practice. We found that the target practice was the favourite of staff and residents, creating different targets to shoot at.

They also enjoyed their refreshments of lager and a selection of crisps.

Weekly Exercise Class

The residents always enjoy doing some exercise and moving about so once a week we do an exercise class with them. We started off with some gentle chair exercises starting from our head and finishing with our feet, whilst listening to some relaxing music. We then work on our hand to eye coordination with some ball throwing into the hoop. The residents enjoyed some light refreshments after all their hard work!

Flower Pressing

We marked National floral Design Day by going for a walk around the garden to pick a range of flowers from our lovely displays now that spring is approaching. We then pressed our floral designs to make a lovely floral collage for our café area. The ladies used a mixture of colourful flowers and greenery for their master pieces. It certainly brightens up the area very well and looks beautiful for everyone to see!

London Ladies

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.

Bingo Bonanza

Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as they teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.

Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
