Activities at Silverbirch House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Silverbirch House Care Home

Macmillan Coffee Morning
We joined the worlds biggest coffee morning on Friday here at Silverbirch House Care Home and had a great time. Residents helped with baking the cakes along with our wonderful Head Chef Sange. We also had special support from one of our residents, Gilly who has been heavily involved with Macmillan Cancer Support over the years. We raised over £50 which everyone is very proud of!

Charity Car Wash
Silverbirch House team, gather all together and create a happy and welcoming environment during our Charity Car Wash event. Our incredible staff, they went above and beyond in the true spirit of giving and sharing, volunteered their time to hand-wash cars, all in support of AGE UK Surrey.
In collaboration with 355 Automobile Restorations, we did not only cleaned vehicles, we also raised £178.50 for this worthy cause. To ensure that everyone who wash the car or waiting while their care was wash, we had an BBQ prepared by our talented chef with the option of admiring classic cars such as the sleek black Jaguar and vibrant purple Triumph.
The event was filled with smiles, sunshine, and a good sense of community. Seeing our residents and visitors together for such a meaningful purpose was amazing. A big thank you to everyone who participated and donated - your support has made a significant impact on AGE UK Surrey’s vital care services.

Portugal Day
At Silverbirch House, we are extremely proud of our multicultural team and we love celebrating the diverse cultures within our community. Recently, Helena, our senior carer, shared a special part of her Portuguese culture, with both residents and staff, creating a day filled with warmth and joy.
Helena brought some traditional Portuguese food and drinks, and all our resident enjoyed every taste of it. She prepared as a salty dish Bolinhos De Bacalhau — crispy cod fritters mixed with potatoes, parsley, and egg, and for a sweet dish she brought Pastel De Nata, all enjoyed with Porto Wine and Super Bock Beer. This offered everyone a taste of Portugal’s culinary delights, and all of this with Fado music playing in the background.
To finish the day on a different note, Helena organised a quiz about Portugal, where our residents impressed everyone with their knowledge, they actually put the staff to shame knowing all the right answers and even taught the staff a few new Portuguese words that they remembered.
The day was a wonderful celebration of culture, food, and friendship, all thanks to Helena. Everything went perfeito, as Portuguese will say.

Celebrating Resident Of The Day
At Silverbirch House, our Resident of the Day program is all about celebrating our residents by crafting a day around their favourite foods and cherished memories. Recently, Colin was overjoyed with his choice of a delicious Chicken Pie with mashed potatoes and green beans, a meal that brought back warm memories. Peter's eyes lit up with happiness when he was served his beloved Chicken in White Wine Sauce. Mr. Cribb was deeply moved by the Braising Beef Steak with Fresh Cauliflower Gratin, a dish that holds a special place in his heart. Frank was filled with nostalgia as he enjoyed a Chicken Pie, reminding him of his childhood when his family raised chickens. This heartfelt program ensures every resident feels truly special and celebrated, while also giving our team the joy of getting to know them even better.

Creativity was in full flow during our hobbies and craft session!
In anticipation of the Paris Olympics, our residents got busy making festive bunting to decorate the home. Others expressed their creativity through their favourite hobbies. We even made candles. It's was great to see everyone participating.

Spotlight on one of our fantastic residents, Gilly!
At Silverbirch House, we offer a diverse range of activities to keep our residents engaged and happy. Gilly started her day with a visit to the nail technicians for a gel manicure and pedicure. Once polished up, she returned to the home for an arts and crafts session. It turns out Gilly is quite the artist.
