Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Shawford Springs Speakers Corner

On Wednesday last week we held the first of our monthly ‘Speakers Corner’ events. We were fortunate to be joined by Matthew from Twyford Waterworks, who gave a fascinating talk about the plethora of wonderful wildlife which can be found on the four acre waterworks site.

We’d like to say a big thank you to Matthew for such an interesting & informative afternoon

Our next Speakers Corner event is coming up on Tuesday 19th September and is all about the  ‘Power of the Flower’.  Everyone is Welcome to come along.

Memorable Moments - Lys and Beattie The Red Setter

Last week we arranged a special surprise for Lys as part of our Meaningful Moments initiative.

Lys used to own Irish Setters, so we did some research online & managed to find an Irish setter owned called Sandy who very kindly offered to come & visit Lys with one of her dogs, Beattie.

It was an absolutely lovely visit, Beattie was a real hit with everyone in the home, she was incredibly friendly & loved cuddles!

Thank you to both Sandy & Beattie for making a special trip to come and and see us, we do hope they’ll visit us again soon

Abigail uses Willow to bring countryside craft & reminiscence activities to the local community. We had a fascinating chat with Abi about a variety of herbs & their properties and also about the countryside around where we grew up

The Watercress Line - Making Tracks

This week two of our gents, Barry & Alan enjoyed a special trip on The Watercress Line, which took them on a scenic ride from Alresford to Alton & back.

There was plenty to see along the route including the pretty station of Ropley, along with views of the beautiful Hampshire countryside.

We’d like to thank the staff & volunteers at the Watercress Line for their assistance at the station & for making our trip so enjoyable
