Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

When resident Lawrence was asked how he wished to celebrate his big 90th milstone Birthday, he told the activity team he would love to have a party and invite all of his family and friends. The activity team worked alongside Lawrence’s daughter to organise the perfect get together for him and his loved ones. Activity members Skigh and Jess visited Lawrence in the morning with their toddlers who are great friends of Lawrence’s through our intergenerational Baby and Toddler Group. Lawrence has tracked the pairs progress since pregnancy and it made his day to get a special visit from them in morning. In the afternoon Lawrence was joined by all of his family and friends for an afternoon of cake, good food and fantastic company.

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

Residents at Scarborough Hall Care Home absolutely loved welcoming Trev from Animal House Birds of Prey into the home, along with his collection of feathered friends. Recently Trev was put in a heart-breaking situation when his Aviaries were broken into and destroyed. We knew we had to do something to help so we set up a tattoo voucher Raffle and managed to raise over half the money Trev needs to repair the damage. Here resident David is pictured with one of the owls, this activity meant so much to David as he used to be a warden on Farne Island as part of the wildlife conservation project so this form of animal therapy really sparked his interests.

To further our long standing community link with local Queen Street Methodist Church we like to make sure we visit them once a month for their Sunday Services which offers our residents the opportunity to worship. We always enjoy going down early and sharing refreshments and a chat before the service. Here Residents David from Sitwell Suite and Lawrence from Bronte Suite stop for a photo opportunity together after. Both residents commented how they felt relaxed and rejuvenated once we had got back to the home, they also enjoyed telling their friends about the morning they had together.

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough got out their binoculars and bird books to support this year’s Big Garden Birdwatch initiative.

The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch is an annual event to try to understand what is happening to our native birds. The idea is to log all the birds you see in your garden, from your window or in your local park in a one hour period any time between January 26th and 28th.  In 2023 over half a million people took part and between them they counted 9 million birds.  Sadly we have lost over 38 million birds from the UK skies in the last 60 years so it is vital we do all we can to protect our birdlife.

Oculus VR headsets are an amazing piece of equipment we have at Scarborough Hall that will enable us to travel almost anywhere in the world.

As Pippa loves all things Egyptian and has travelled there and visited the Pyramids and Cairo museum previously, when asked where in the world would she like to travel again if she could, she replied with Egypt, so we found her a tour around the Cairo museum.

Pippa said I can’t believe how clear the picture is, I feel like I'm really there. can we try the British Museum next time.
