Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Gingerbread House Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking!

The staff and residents asked head chef Paul to whip up a big batch of gingerbread for them and then got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, dolly mixture, candy canes and edible glitter to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town.

General Manager, Charlotte Nurse, said: “We were all so excited when we found out there was a Gingerbread House Day, what a fantastic excuse to spend the day making gorgeous festive decorations.  The best thing about it is that, now that we have judged which gingerbread house we like best, we get to eat them all – delicious!”

Finding Santa's little helpers!

Barchester’s Scarborough Hall care home has teamed up with the local shops along Falsgrave to run a find Santa’s little helper’s competition. The competition is running until 30th December, we would like to invite children in our local community to join in to be in with the chance of winning a prize. You will need to collect an entry form from reception at the home and then find all 9 reindeers and 7 elves in the shop windows and then return the completed forms to us, the winners will be drawn shortly after the closing date.

General Manager, Charlotte Nurse said: “Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and our fantastic residents love to get festive so we’ve pulled out all the stops.  It is so lovely to be able to involve children in our local community.”

Home host annual Christmas Party

Barchester’s Scarborough Hall care home, in Scarborough, got in the Christmas spirit by hosting their annual Christmas Parties for each community with in the home. The activity team hosted each party and provided a selection of Christmas treats and tipples including Baileys, Mulled Wine and Snowballs.

Laughton Suite’s Christmas party entertainment was provided for us by our resident musician Matt at Rewind who kicked off our Christmas festivities quite fabulously, providing an uplifting and fun filled afternoon for all. We would like to thank Matt for his hard work and loyalty over the years and look forward to working with him in the New Year.

Christmas decorations

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall Care Home, in Scarborough, have been decking the halls, getting out the tinsel and unravelling the fairy lights, ready for a whole host of Christmas celebrations.  Scarborough Hall’s residents and staff have been busy creating lots of home-made garlands and wreaths to make the home as festive as can be.  The residents have also been crafting home-made decorations for the Christmas tree which they all helped to decorate, the tree is looking truly magnificent covered in beautiful Christmas lights, bows, and homemade decorations.

A magical outing

Scarborough Hall care home, in Scarborough, enjoyed getting in the Christmas spirit by visiting Santa’s garden on Tuesday evening. Nigel Watkinson has been transforming his garden into winter wonderland for the last 20 years, this year he is raising money for St Catherine’s hospice and we have been luckily enough to have secured tickets to the event before they sold out.

We really enjoyed watching the children enjoy the magical miniature train ride around the Santa’s garden which has surely got us feeling the festive spirit.  Senior General Manager, Charlotte Nurse said: “We absolutely loved being able to take our residents out and about to visit Santa’s garden, it makes us all so happy to experience Christmas events like this.  It has been a fantastic day and we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”

Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester.  Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
