Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Home remembers legendary Bob Marley

Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough was transformed into a little corner of the Caribbean to celebrate what would have been Bob Marley’s 78th birthday on 6th February.  Born in Nine Mile, Jamaica, Robert Nesta Marley, or Bob Marley as he was better known, died of a rare type of skin cancer in 1981, aged just 36.  He was considered one of the pioneers of reggae and was known for his distinctive, soulful vocal and song writing style.  He is hailed as a cultural icon who increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide, despite his relatively short career.  His album Legend is the best-selling reggae album of all time.  Rolling Stone ranked him 11th on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Scarborough Hall Care Home in Scarborough welcomed in the Year of the Rabbit. During our celebrations, we listened to some music from Greater China, viewed last year's celebrations and discussed the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac, enjoyed fan dancing as well as learning how to use chopsticks and learned how to write our names in Chinese. As part of our Chinese themed dining experience, our residents had the opportunity to try some traditional Chinese cuisine and fortune cookies.

Starlings virtual talk

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Virtual trip to the Circus

Today we have had a great time celebrating, Oomph Demands Circus Day. This Morning we spent time going through the world famous circuses and watching them on YouTube while Becky read the oomph demand factsheet to us. In the Choirchester we sang the greatest showman songs as well as some of our favorites.

To ended the day we watched moulin rouge and the greatest showman in 2 of the lounges.

Christmas Day

Here at Scarborough Hall we had a fantastic Christmas Day, which involved themed movies, singing and dancing, family visits followed by a beautiful festive lunch with turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, puddings and cakes.

In the morning we welcomed Mrs Clause from the North Pole, who brought gifts to all our residents - everyone was busy opening their presents and enjoying a glass of bubbly before the festive feast, prepared by our talented chef and kitchen team.

After lunch, we tuned in to watch and listen to the King's speech. Our day was filled with joy, smiles, music and laughter.

St James Angel's sing....

Heavenly voices rang out at Scarborough Hall as team members and members of our local St James Church came together to celebrate Christmas with a very special tailored carol concert for our residents who are unable to make it out to church.

The residents were delighted to hear a knock at the bedroom door to be greeted by a personalised rendition of the most wonderful traditional carol songs which was reminiscent of years gone by, just like experiencing carol singers when they lived in their own home.

There was mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts and toasted marshmallows along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef, Paul to get everyone feeling festive.
