Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

We would like to welcome you to our activities team, Jessica Larkin and Skigh Harrison. Each coordinator started as carers in the home and they have worked together as an activities team for a number of years.
They are passionate about their role and providing the best for the Residents in the home, they enjoy finding new ways to of engaging and creating real and meaningful connections with the residents, through Resident centred 1-2-1 sessions, group activities, interesting outings and close links with our local communities.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Historic Hendon
Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.
Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.
The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
Story telling with Jon Sleigh
Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.
Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.
Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes. It was a truly lovely time for all.
Home marks Dementia Action Week
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough marked Dementia Action Week which took place from 15 – 21 May. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning – thinking, remembering, reasoning – which can affect a person’s day to day life and activities. Functions that can be impacted are memory, language skills, visual perception, problem solving, self-management and the ability to focus and pay attention. The number of people living with dementia in the UK is forecast to increase to over 1m.
Residents embrace flower power
Residents at Scarborough Hall in Scarborough celebrated Chelsea Flower Show which is taking place from 23 to 27 May 2023 - as well as watching the show on TV, they also held their own competition for the green-fingered.
Created and run by the Royal Horticultural Society, Chelsea Flower Show is the world’s greatest flower show with stunning garden designs and gorgeous floral displays.
VE Day and Coronation Party
Resident Andy and his wife Barbara pose for a photo during our VE Day Coronation themed party with cruise ship singer Lori Kellett who blessed us with her annual Sing-along style session. Residents enjoyed helping to decorate our party table where we all joined together for afternoon tea.
Firefighter's Brunch
Activity member Skigh, home manger Charlotte and deputy manager Charrdi pose for a photo opportunity during our Firefighter’s Brunch, hosted at the home as an opportunity for the residents to thank the service for all their hard work as well as ask questions that they had. The Firefighters joined us in the coffee bar for bacon sandwiches, croissants and coffee. Before they left residents were able to go out into the car park and see the fire engines.
