Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Each month we host our bespoke themed dining experience in our Laughton Suite Dementia Café, this month the theme was St Patrick's Day. Residents from all three floors really enjoyed getting together for a delicious Irish Guinness stew whilst reminiscing and listening to Irish pub classics.

To further our St Patrick's Day festivities we are excited to welcome local Ukulele band the Hunmanbee’s as they joined us for an afternoon or Irish classics and themed baked goods. Residents enjoyed dancing and doing crafts as our St Patrick's Day party commenced in full swing.

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.

Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as they teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.

Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Celebrations have been in full swing at Scarborough hall care home, as one of its residents reaches his 90th Birthday in style. Lawrence Roberts was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as his birthday party was in full swing by the afternoon. Our talented hospitality team provided the buffet, refreshments and cake whilst the activity team got busy decorating his favourite lounge. In the morning activity members Skigh and Jess visited Lawrence in the home with their toddlers who are friends of Lawrence through our monthly intergenerational Baby and Toddler group.

When our Maintenance man Dave approached the activity team and explained how it was the anniversary of his Father’s passing and how he would love to do a fundraiser in his memory, we knew we had to help support one of our own. Activity member Skigh worked tirelessly to put together a fundraiser on Saturday 17th February at the home in aid of the Alzeimer’s Society, this charity is close to all of our hearts but especially Dave who lost his dad to dementia also.

The team put on a cake sale, raffle, tombola and fundraiser games around the home and managed to raise just over £100 for this all important charity. Team members also made a donation to wear the colour purple during their shift on the Saturday!

As per Scarborough tradition the activity team took to the streets to partake in the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race in the town centre. Residents enjoyed going down to show their support and watch the race before returning to the home to enjoy pancake flipping competitions and decorations. The girls won their first race against St Martin’s school but unfortunately got knocked out of the next race by the fearless Dexters surf shop team.
