Activities at Rivermead Care Home

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Nicola Bedford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.

We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.

It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Elvis Afternoon

Once again, Elvis was in the building! We all came together in the memory lane community as our Deputy manager, Simon, gave us a wonderful performance of his Elvis tribute act.

The residents really enjoyed this musical afternoon, singing and dancing their afternoon away to familiar songs! One of the care team, Lee, also joined in as Elvis performed acapella vocals with Lee playing his guitar!

Alpaca adventure!

Rivermead was full of animal mischief on 16th January when a group of alpacas and baby guinea pigs came to visit the home. Residents at Rivermead were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around their garden and inside their lounge as Butterwick Alpaca Retreat paid a visit.

General Manager Sarah Jackson said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”

Christmas at Castle Howard

We ventured out to Castle Howard to attend the Alice in Wonderland house display.

The house was decorated absolutely beautifully in the Alice in Wonderland theme throughout and was simply stunning and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit for the 3rd year.

We took Jean, Audrey and Ken to have a look around and see the absolute beautiful delights. They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and afterwards we sat down for a lovely meal in the café.

We are thoroughly into all the Christmas celebrations and this has been the icing on the cake for the build up to Christmas and we are now thoroughly excited.

Preschool Visits

We had the pleasure of welcoming a group of nursery children into our home. We spent the afternoon decorating some Christmas ornaments, reading stories and singing some familiar nursery rhymes and Christmas songs!

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon interacting with the children.

Inter-generational activities are a great opportunity for both the children and residents by enhancing the children’s learning, and promoting positive wellbeing for our residents. It can also bring back some wonderful memories of taking care of their own children/ grandchildren.

Christmas at York Minster

We had the absolute pleasure of attending York Minster Christmas Carol concert. Layla, Nicola, Lola and Maughan attended with Norman, Steve, Eileen and June.

The afternoon began at Thompsons fish and chip shop where we enjoyed a lovely tea, before heading to the Minster. We absolutely thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and so did our lovely residents.

It was an absolute joy to watch them singing, smiling and enjoying themselves. There was so much joy in everybody faces and after all, the best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.

A surprise festive gift

Residents and colleagues here at Rivermead were delighted to receive a very special festive hamper for all to enjoy this festive season. A huge thank you to Louise Grammy-Ashley Cattle, Amy Witheam and the whole team at Sofina Foods Europe for choosing us as their people to receive this amazing donation!

The whole Rivermead family thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
