Activities at Rivermead Care Home

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Life at Rivermead Care Home

Sunshine makes us happy

We enjoyed abit of sunshine this morning before it became too hot, our lovely residents did some reading, colouring in and it was nice to enjoy the sunshine before the heavens opened on us this afternoon!

Our lovely Val wanted to remind everyone to wear their suncream and stay safe as she was making sure everyone in the garden had some on before they came outside

A trip to Castle Howards

Firstly, we would like to say a massive thank you to a wonderful, kind and thoughtful lady Sheryl Gravil for supplying us with annual passes to her and her late husbands (who we had the pleasure of caring for) favourite place.

Today we took the opportunity to use these passes and took Norman, John, Beryl and Brenda to enjoy the gardens. We had a lovely picnic, walked around the gardens and many of our residents had wonderful memories of visiting castle Howard in their younger years.

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

National Carers Week

This week it is national carers week and we want to take the opportunity to thank each and every single one of our wonderful members of the care team.  Our residents adore our carers and they each have a special unique bond with each member of the team.

Our carers spend time with the residents getting to know them and learning the little things in life which makes their experience and time with us the best it can be, weather that be just how they like their hot drinks, how they like their bed making or which way they like their hair brushed, everything counts and our carers ensure they learn all these little things.

We think our carers deserve recognition all the time for the outstanding efforts they put into our residents experience, many of our carers spend their own time with the residents escorting residents to appointments and going out on trips which make the residents days better.

Story telling with Jon Sleigh

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Sunny Days

This afternoon we decided to make the most of the sunshine and head out into the garden! Resident Pam was an artist and asked us for something to do so we thought why not get the paints out and have an afternoon being artists

It was so much fun, soaking up some sun and we raided the activities room and found some flowers and a blank canvas and decided why not make a giant resident inspired flower with artist Pams approval!
