Activities at Rivermead Care Home

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Life at Rivermead Care Home

Autumn leaves

This morning we headed out to the Rivermead minibus and we were swiftly off on an adventure to Dalby Forest. On board were residents Chas, Vivien and Brian.

We arrived in beautiful sunshine with autumn leaves whirling and gliding past us. ‘Isn’t it a privilege to be able to come and see this beautiful landscape!’ Enthused Vivien. We all agreed.

We lunched on an excellent picnic, provided by the Rivermead kitchen, and then gently meandered back home, enjoying all the autumnal colours.

Halloween at Rivermead

Today we celebrated Halloween, in a rather grown-up way! We made some pumpkin and orange muffins, and we are delighted to say they were very tasty.  While waiting for them to cook, we painted some pumpkins to decorate the dining tables with.  This afternoon we did a Halloween quiz, and enjoyed more muffins.

A fond farewell

Today we said a sad farewell to Memory Lanes unit manager Vixx Taylor, who many know (and can see) she is expecting her first baby girl in just a few weeks time.

Luckily Vixx has a strong team behind her who will miss her and her knowledge and expertise in her absence but will be holding the fort for her and she’s has given Layla her orders for what to do in her absence.

Baking scones

Joan and Peggy put their motherly instincts together and baked some sultana scones, which were enjoyed fresh, with proper butter and jam whilst we honoured her majesty with a tipple of sherry and our freshly baked warm scones whilst watching the funeral take place.

Birthday celebrations

Yesterday at Rivermead we celebrated Brenda’s birthday!  We were delighted to surprise her with a lovely birthday cake that our catering team had baked. Brenda was thrilled to share her cake with son Andy, who arrived just in time!

Impossible bouquet

Recently Barchester homes have been treated to another virtual event from the Wallace Collection in London. This time we explored a flower painting by the 18th century Dutch artist Jan van Huysum (1682-1749).

We looked at one particular painting (from a group of four paintings known as the Impossible Bouquet) in this picture there is an arrangement of 35 different types of flower, which before modern cultivation techniques, could never have been seen together at the same time of year.
