Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Superstar Residents!

Unfortunately our lovely weekend receptionist is unwell today. Hearing this news, our superstar residents, the wonderful Elma, Eileen & Val, all stepped in to help cover reception, meeting and greeting guests.

Watch out Annette, our residents may be after your job!

Thank you ladies - You were all amazing, and we hope you feel better soon Annette!

Mothers Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers & mother figures within Queens Manor!

We celebrated today with some pamper sessions in the morning, followed by some cracking entertainment in our Cafe!

Thank you to all of our families, friends and staff who joined in the celebrations and helped the ladies feel extra special today!

Historic Royal Palaces

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Emergency Family Bed & Trolley

We are delighted to say that we have launched yet another initiative to better enhance the wellbeing of the residents and family members of Queens Manor.

We understand that sometimes being away from your family is hard during times of Ill health or uncertainty, and that’s why we have launched our emergency family bed & trolley.

If you ever feel like you’d like to stay with us and your loved one, we have a new moveable bed that we can place in the room, along with the new family wellbeing trolley that is complimentary and includes freshening up items and snacks.

Never hesitate to ask us for these items.

Australia Day

As we celebrated our own countries culture for burns day, it seemed fair that we shared the love and helped celebrate International Australia Day on the 26th of January!

The residents loved taking part in a themed quiz, listening to our entertainer Liz, enjoying an Australian themed lunch, and themed snacks throughout the day! Including some traditional Australia fairy bread - which consisted of bread, butter and sprinkles - give it a go at home and let us know what you think!

Thank you again to all who joined in & took part in the fun! Including residents, staff and visitors.

From the Manor Gone

We are delighted to announce that we have officially started our new Queens Manor project … From the Manor Gone!

We speak to the residents of Queens Manor & try and make their largest desire a reality!

Our first resident to take part in the project is Isabella! Last week we spoke to Isabella and through many “getting to know me” sessions, we learned that she used to have show cats as pets and has won many rosettes with her prized pets!

She expressed how she would very much like to be surrounded by cats again! This is where Donna - General Manager - and Shannon - Senior Head of Lifestyle & Enrichment - started putting their heads together and eventually found Maison de Moggy in Edinburgh! A local café that has many cats roaming free!

A quick click booking and a minibus ride - & we arrived at the cafe today!

Isabella commented “Thank you so much to Donna and Shannon for making this happen - I’ve had such a good day out and really enjoyed myself!”
