Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home

Weekly Coffee Morning

Our weekly coffee morning is the ideal opportunity to sit, chat and have a good catch up with family & friends

The ladies and gents love coming together with a brew and setting the world right!

This is open to all to wish to come in and join us – The more the merrier!

World Book Day

Today we have loved getting dressed up in celebration of world book day - everyone enjoyed seeing members of the staff and residents dress up and playing guess who when it came to characters!

We even made a visit our friends at Peek-A-Boo nursery (CC Nurseries) and did a very special story time reading!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success!

International Women's Day

In celebration of this special day, Donna and Coral have hosted a celebratory afternoon tea party to say thank you to the wonderful team here at Queens Manor!

Every member of staff goes above and beyond their roles to ensure that residents, families and visitors are well looked after!

Everyone enjoyed the awards ceremony, with certificates including - paper clip awards… for the person who keeps the team together - rookie rising star - calm in the storm - and more ! Followed by a wee bite to eat & dance and a chat!

I’m sure you will all join us in saying a huge thank you to the whole team here at Queens Manor!

Team Building

We would like to express our thanks to Rhys and Scott over at Fettes_College for hosting us for our team building day today!

It was brilliant to see staff branching out of their comfort zone and team up with colleagues they don’t normally work alongside, in order to achieve a common goal…. Complete the low ropes course as a unit!

This was followed by some fire starting, hot drink drinking and fire roasting … which was very much appreciated by everyone !

Thank you again for this opportunity - we are excited to build this continually growing relationship and can’t wait to see what the rest of 2023 brings!

From the Manor Gone

If you can’t stand the heat… get out of the kitchen!

On this episode of “From the Manor Gone”, Valerie took a trip to the Scottish Chef Of the Year Competition (ScotHot) that took place at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, in partnership with Scottish Chefs

Valerie is a lifelong foodie and has missed the hustle and bustle of a busy kitchen & cooking! So the team put our heads together and thought a visit to this highly prestigious competition would be wonderful for Valerie!

Valerie loved the watching the chefs throughout their 3 hour cook off - watching eagerly and guessing who would win! She also enjoyed walking around the exhibition stalls, sampling some food and having a nosey at some new kitchen gadgets!

She commented “what an amazing day out - I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the day - watching the senior chefs and seeing what the next generation of chefs have to offer too.

I don’t envy the amount of pressure they’ll be under though!”

Massive congratulations to Craig Palmer, Head Chef at Wilde Thyme who came away with gold!

Hydration & Nutrition Week

As part of nutrition and hydration week, some of the ladies enjoyed baking up a storm with homemade flapjacks!

Val, Mary, Christine, Gladys, Elma & Valerie loved getting a little messy, creating the tasty goodies and reminiscing over baking when they were children!

Great job ladies!
