Activities at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home

At Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home, our Lifestyle/Activities staff endeavour to provide a wide range of activities that suit all residents' physical and mental needs. There are regular minibus trips to nearby places of interest, including visits to local beaches and shows. We also have a film club, gentlemen's club, arts and crafts club, with musical entertainment once a week. Activities are very important to the staff of Plas-Y-Dderwen, making the home a fun and active place for all the residents who live here.

Lisa Peart

Activities Coordinator

Hello, I am Lisa and I have recently joined the team at Plas y Dderwen. I have worked in the care sector since 2009 and I have a passion for working with people.
Although I am new to this role, I have always enjoyed being creative and bringing a smile and a sense of joy to others.
I am looking forward to developing an Activities programme that will bring enrichment to residents' lives through meaningful Activities.

Life at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home

National Beer Day

National Beer Day could only be celebrated here at Plas-Y-Dderwen  soas long as we could create our own bar with realistic sound effects. A selection of beers and real ales were sampled and enjoyed by our residents and the competition was stiff as to which was the best beer of the lot.

Royal Celebrations

Spirits were high this week as we joined in the celebrations for her majesty, Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday. Flags were being waved as we watched the trooping of the colours and then we went on to bake and decorate our own little birthday cakes that we happily ate in the absence of her majesty.

Flower Power

The whole home smelt of freshly cut flowers as our residents came together to plan out their flower arrangements together. There were smiles and laughter through this colourful activity and we have plans to make this a regular part of our week.

A Kind Donation

We were grateful to receive a generous cheque in excess of £300 in April. The cheque came from a member of the public that had received a signed Wales international rugby ball and had then auctioned it off to raise money for the residents of our home. Our manager is planning to put the money towards a large party for residents and staff after the pandemic is over.

Paying Our Respects

When asked how the residents wanted to honour Prince Phillip, it was agreed that we would hold our own memorial service so we could all come together and talk about our favourite stories of the Duke and his good work.

During this memorial, the residents enjoyed a cream tea service and many laughs were heard amongst the tears shed at the passing of a wonderful man.

Easter Egg Hunt

Residents were overjoyed when our local Tesco delivered an Easter egg free to every resident at Plas-Y-Dderwen. We followed this generous surprise with an Easter egg hunt around the gardens in the beautiful sunny weather.
