Activities at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home

At Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home, our Lifestyle/Activities staff endeavour to provide a wide range of activities that suit all residents' physical and mental needs. There are regular minibus trips to nearby places of interest, including visits to local beaches and shows. We also have a film club, gentlemen's club, arts and crafts club, with musical entertainment once a week. Activities are very important to the staff of Plas-Y-Dderwen, making the home a fun and active place for all the residents who live here.

Lisa Peart

Activities Coordinator

Hello, I am Lisa and I have recently joined the team at Plas y Dderwen. I have worked in the care sector since 2009 and I have a passion for working with people.
Although I am new to this role, I have always enjoyed being creative and bringing a smile and a sense of joy to others.
I am looking forward to developing an Activities programme that will bring enrichment to residents' lives through meaningful Activities.

Life at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home

Furry Friends

Our rabbits have bought so much love to the home in the year that they’ve been here, and pet therapy is a key focal point for keeping up our residents' mental well-being.

Movie Night

As the weather changes to colder rainier days, our residents like nothing better than a good movie and some fresh, homemade popcorn.

Pottery Classes

Our residents love to show that they are always up for a new challenge, and pottery was the challenge for September. After an afternoon of feeling and interacting with the wonderful textures of clay, we set to making our very own tiles, and these are the designs the residents here at Plas-Y-Dderwen came up with.

Helping the 1st Royal Irish

1st Royal Irish joined Plas-Y-Dderwen to facilitate training for COVID-19 testing stations, and we leant our care park to help. If, in light of the current situation, we can help out in any way for our community we will.

The 1st Royal spent the day at our home training around 20 individuals on how to erect a testing station and provide tests. By the end of the day, all whom attended could successfully arrange a testing station. The 1st Royal Irish will continue to utilise the car park spaces for more training in the future.

We want to thank everyone for their contribution and look forward to working together with our community more and supporting the NHS where possible. We are currently still taking admissions into our care home for those that need care in the next 4 weeks, so please do give us a call.

Beach Day

This idea began as a project that involved residents and staff alike coming together to create a beach-themed patio: a beach away from the beach that would give our residents a feeling of the familiar whilst also also offering them a quiet place to relax.

We opened the beach to the residents, and the response we had was phenomenal. Ice cream, fish and chips and a beach party that covered the whole home were just a few of the activities the residents and staff here at Plas-Y-Dderwen enjoyed.

Cocktail Day

We cannot go to the pub, so we thought we would try our hands at making our own cocktails. From a Tom Collins to a Sex on the Beach, the residents loved being able to suggest different flavours and cocktail ideas.

We mixed together melon, strawberry, vodka, and lime for what we like to call the 'Plas-Y-Dderwen Twilight'. New ideas are already being suggested for next month as our residents are loving the idea of trying cocktails or mocktails that they have designed themselves.
