Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Life at Overslade House Care Home

Cards of Kindness from Local School

The children of Paddox Primary School, Miss Stock’s Year 2 class have spent time writing letters and creating artwork for Anne our Resident Ambassador at Overslade House. They wanted to send her a big smile and personal messages of love and thanks following a tough week.

You can see by Anne’s face, this amazing and unexpected gift certainly did the trick! Anne can’t thank the students enough for all their hard work and kind words. Paddox Primary School

Congratulations! 70 Years of Love & Marriage

One of our wonderful residents from Overslade House celebrated 70 years of marriage with her husband today 17th March 2021. Doreen and Bob Luthert met on a train journey to London in the 1950’s and it was love at first sight!

Bob worked at Lloyd’s Bank in London and couldn’t let Doreen go after their chance encounter. After marrying the happy couple had a wonderful honeymoon in Cornwall and made their home in Harrow.

They have two children, daughter Kim, and son Philip. Seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Evan 7, Finn 5 and Harry 3 months to keep them young at heart!

They moved to Rugby having been invited to live with their son Philip, in a purpose built bungalow on his land. Unfortunately, due to ill-health, and with the recent Covid restrictions they’ve not been able to see one another but today, on their ‘platinum’ 70th wedding anniversary we brought them together with the help of their children.

Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit, with hand holding allowed but not recommended.

Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still such a special moment when Doreen realised that her visitors today weren’t only her son and daughter, but a surprise visit from her husband Bob!

Firstly, they met in our purpose built visitor suite, privately in the home, where for the first time in many weeks they were able to hold hands. It was such a precious moment and an honour for the home to join in their celebrations. Congratulations Doreen & Bob.

Big thanks to Ron(Son in Law) Getitprinted.com for the wonderful printed Wedding Photos.

St Partick's Day

“Beautiful young people are acts of nature but beautiful old people are works of art” - Irish Proverb

We all had a ‘craic’ today to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, doing Irish themed puzzles and painting on memory lane and enjoying a pop-up bar in the café with cold Guinness, Irish coffees and a spot of Bailys! Listening to good old Irish tunes across all communities.

Magic Table Fun

Our memory lane residents had a wonderful time earlier today playing games on the 'magic table'. From snakes & ladders to feeding fish; interacting with this wonderful system helps stimulate mind, body and soul. Our residents really enjoyed the session.

Mothering Sunday

To celebrate Mother's Day our wonderful ladies received a special treat from the home. We hope that you all had a lovely Mothering Sunday.
