Activities at Ouse View Care Home

Ouse View care home, in Fulford, was full of animal mischief on Tuesday when the DB Animal Therapy mobile zoo came to visit the home.

Residents at Ouse View were pleasantly surprised to see animals such as rabbit, guinea pig, turtle, hedgehog, snakes, bearded dragon, chameleon and a tarantula roaming around their lounge as DB Animal Therapy paid a visit.

Ouse View Care Home in Fulford recently played host to a delightful duo of alpacas, Balthazar and Rango, resulting in an enchanting experience for the residents.

Sheriff Alpacas brought their furry friends to Ouse View, turning the lounge into a haven of animal mischief. Residents were pleasantly surprised as the alpacas freely roamed, bringing joy and laughter to the care home.

Residents and guests at Ouse View care home in Fulford enjoyed a night of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local John Kellow performed a selection of classic hits including Do wah diddy diddy by Manfred Mann, Three Times a Lady by Lionel Richie and Half Way to Paradise by Billy Fury.

Residents joined in with the singing along as John Kellow performed his finale song Can’t help falling in love with you by Elvis Presley. The hospitality team at the home also provided a selection of wine to enjoy during the show.

Ouse View Care Home in York embraced the spirit of Burns Night with a traditional celebration featuring Auld Lang Syne and a morning filled with joyous activities.  Residents and staff at Ouse View actively participated in various events, including a Burns Night Quiz and Highland Games, to honour the Scottish tradition.

Fatima Buxton, Deputy Manager at Ouse View, stated, “Burns Night is consistently a fantastic event at Ouse View, and it's imperative to preserve these traditions. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed a morning of modified Highland Games, engaging in activities such as tossing the haggis, throwing the caber, and demonstrating their accuracy at tin can alley. The Scottish quiz added a delightful touch, revealing the depth of our knowledge – or, in some cases, the lack thereof! – about Scotland.”

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.

Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Ouse View care home in Fulford recently hosted Stuart Priest, a representative from One Planet York CIC, a collaborative movement dedicated to achieving a sustainable York and our planet. Stuart shared valuable insights into ten principles that individuals can adopt to contribute to a more sustainable future. The event aimed to highlight that seemingly small changes, when made collectively, lead to significant positive impacts on the environment.

During the informative session, Stuart emphasized the importance of individual actions in making a difference. He urged attendees to consider the long-term effects of their choices and explained how even small adjustments in daily routines can contribute to a healthier planet. Stuart took the audience on a journey through history, discussing population growth, technological advancements, and the current environmental challenges we face.
