Activities at Newington Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.

Jo English

Activities Coordinator

I joined Newington Court in September 2021. After working as a Carer in September 2022 I became the Lead Activities Co-coordinator. It is a pleasure to care for our residents and make sure that their needs are met to the highest standards. Every day is different but it is a very rewarding job and gives a great sense of satisfaction. I am looking forward to ensuring that our residents are getting an enriched lifestyle and by getting to know them on a one-to-one basis making sure that we cater to everyone’s needs and interests.

Trick or Treat?

After a morning of pumpkin carving and decorating the home, our residents enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment and games with trick or treat prizes. This was followed by a special Halloween tea.

,

'50s Afternoon

We hosted a 1950s-inspired afternoon tea for our Falcon Place residents. A selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes were provided by our fantastic Head Chef, Stuart.

They were joined by their family members on Zoom so that, even in these unprecedented times, families were still able to enjoy a good ol' British cup of tea together and a singalong to some '50s favourites

Keeping in Touch

Although our residents have been keeping in touch with their families with garden visits, zoom calls, Facetime and telephone calls, they have also been writing to their families in 'the old fashioned way'.

With pictures and news, we are sure their families will treasure these letters. Keeping in touch with loved ones is so important in these unprecedented times.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

After baking lots of cupcakes, shortbread and Victoria sponges, which were shared with a local residential home, our residents enjoyed their Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraising event.

After enjoying their coffee and cakes, we went on to have an afternoon of fun with armchair aerobics, followed by bingo.  Everyone won a prize!

Flower Power

Residents have been trying a new activity: flower arranging. Not only did it give them pleasure, it also brightens the home.  This will now become a weekly activity. The group are looking forward to making themed displays for Halloween and Christmas.

Twiddle Muffs

We received a donation of Twiddle Muffs. Twiddle Muffs are a great sensory item and these will be much enjoyed and appreciated by our Memory Lane residents, many of whom have already decided on their favourite. A small selection of the many donated are shown in the photo.
