Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Wedding bells chimes at Mulberry Court

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at Mulberry Court care home in York as staff and residents waved off fellow resident, Jean Doughty, to go and see her great-grandson, Ricky Doughty marry his gorgeous bride Becky Taylor at York Registry Office.  It was touch and go whether Jean would be able to attend the ceremony, she really didn’t think it would be possible, so everyone breathed a sigh of relief when the big day came and she was able to go thanks to the help of all of the staff.  Jean said it was the best thing ever to be able to surprise her great grandson and be part of his big day.

Coronation celebrations fit for a King

Excitement was in the air at Mulberry Court in York where residents and staff have been busy making Coronation-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and of course the official Kings Coronation Quiche baked by their Chef Kath Speed in preparation for the King’s Coronation which took place on May 6th.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home hosted a fantastic garden party with live entertainment, Birds of prey visit, a raffle, cake stalls and lots for the children to do.  The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

The history of Coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Wedding Ready

Our lovey resident Jean had given up hope of making it to her Great-Grandsons wedding so we decided we would make it happen. We painted Jean’s nails, did her hair, make-up and even made her a button hole!  We drove Jean and her family to York Registry Office in our mini-bus and made her dream to come true.

Spring Painting

As Spring is upon us we had an afternoon of painting uplifting images like our resident Dorothy here who chose a lovely picture of a duckling.  Our residents always enjoy our Art classes and have learned some great techniques with our watercolour brushes for some lovely results.

Out in the Sunshine

Residents have been taking advantage of the first bit of Spring sunshine in our gardens. Although we have needed to get wrapped up that doesn’t deter our residents from sitting outside and taking in the fresh air in our beautiful gardens.
