Activities at Mount Tryon Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Celebrating life at Mount Tryon Care Home
Therapy Ponies Visit Mount Tryon
Residents and staff were delighted to welcome therapy ponies to Mount Tryon this week for a heart-warming visit.
There were smiles the moment they walked through our front door. For many, seeing a pony indoors was a truly special experience and one they will cherish.
Throughout the visit, residents enjoyed spending time with the gorgeous ponies, stroking them and chatting about the memories that had been brought back. Some reminisced fondly about horses they had owned in the past, while others shared stories of the days when they used to go horse riding.
Animal therapy can have such a positive impact on the residents’ wellbeing. Visits like this can help reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety, encourage conversation, and spark happy memories. We are already looking forward to welcoming them back so they can visit even more of our residents and continue spreading happiness throughout our home.
St George's Day
Our residents had a fantastic time celebrating in true British style. There were wonderful stories, plenty of singing and lots of laughter filling the room. From cheering along to dancing, everyone got into the spirit and had an absolute blast when Paul from Just Sing performed for us!
Deputy Chef Jo then prepared a gorgeous lamb roast for everyone to enjoy with lots of extra festive treats.
A full day of warmth, laughter, happiness and true British spirit, an amazing celebration, just the way we like it.
Cheque donation
Ria Willett, General Manager at Mount Tryon Care Home in Torquay, and Annmarie, Activities Co-ordinator, had the absolute privilege of visiting Moorland Community Caring.
This wasn't just any old visit, this was a visit with a difference. They were honoured to be able to present the Group with a cheque for £1000. This was awarded to them on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation - a grant towards the continuation of this fantastic group which, among other things, aims to reduce isolation for the elderly.
Moorland Community Caring is a small, local charity, serving the communities of Ashburton, Bovey Tracey local charity, serving the communities of Ashburton, Bovey Tracey and Buckfastleigh. Since 2016, they have supported people in a variety of ways, including delivery of a NHS Well-being Programme, Dementia Wellbeing programme, Social Events and Befriending.
National Pizza Day
We had a fantastic day at Mount Tryon for National Pizza Day. This morning, we made our own muffin pizzas, and our peri chef, Giles, entertained us with a fun pizza-making demonstration.
After that, we sat down to eat our homemade muffin pizzas while taking a pizza quiz, and this evening, we savoured our chefs' pizzas for supper.
Fruit art
Here at Mount Tryon, we constantly like engaging in unique events. So we chose to do fruit art. It's much more difficult than it appears, but we had a blast.
And along the way, we enjoyed these delicious refreshments. Healthy and Fun!
Cocktails and Jazz
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of cocktails and jazz music. We had delicious cocktails made by Head Chef Sue and our Hostess Amy. Residents enjoyed Pimm’s, Bellinis, Horses Necks and Mimosas whilst enjoying Jazz Music with friends.
A lovely afternoon had by all.
Taste of India
Every month, Mount Tryon will host a themed day. This month, we had a taste of India Day.
Sue Foreshaw, our head chef, prepared a real Indian meal that everyone loved, and then two of our carers performed an Indian dance for us. It was a wonderful day full of colour, joy and happiness.
Becki Bettesworth visit us for International Women Day
We would like to express a huge thank you to local artist Becky Bettesworth, who joined us at Mount Tryon for our International Women's Day Event.
Becky is an artist living in South Devon creating beautiful, vintage style poster prints. Becky joined us and created a marvellous afternoon displaying her artwork and holding an inspirational talk.
Everyone that attended had a wonderful time. It was a truly uplifting afternoon celebrating the strength and achievements of women. Once again, thank you so much.
We are already looking forward to your next visit, where we are lucky enough to be piloting the HeART Box. A calm, meaningful creative experience designed to encourage connection and reflection through art.
Barchester's monthly virtual event
Each month, Barchester Healthcare put on a virtual live event for all of our homes to watch. This month was live Harp. This encouraged us to invite Luc and his harp to come in to play live for us. We had a wonderful afternoon.
Weekly workouts
Our residents at Mount Tryon look forward to our weekly workout with our physiotherapist Assistant Ewaen, who provides Movement for Health. This week, Ewaen performed arm and leg exercises utilising lightweight, resistive bands, which promoted strengthening of muscles and reaching movement.
Everyone had a great time.
VE Day
Today we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the generation who endured the hardships of World War II and celebrated the long-awaited victory in Europe.
81 years ago, streets filled with cheering crowds, waving flags, music, dancing, and hope as the news spread that the war in Europe had finally come to an end.
Today we commemorated in style. We adorned the home with flags, enjoyed a wonderful lunch together with port a plenty! We enjoyed a wonderful musical performance and an afternoon tea in style! There was lots of music, dancing, laughter and joy! Thank you to all that joined us.
Ladies Day
Here at Mount Tryon we did Ladies Day at Aintree in style. We dip dyed flowers and decorated our own hats.
We then dressed in style and watched the races whilst enjoying cheese and wine. It was a beautiful afternoon.
Plant a flower day
Today, as it was Plant a Flower Day, we planted our Echium 'Pink Fountain which attracts bees to help pollinate our garden. We are hoping this will grow tall in our garden as it can reach 10 feet.
National Umbrella Day
We made the most of our brollies because it was National Umbrella Day at Mount Tryon.
Our charming residents and our dedicated staff had a tour our lovely garden. With our trusted umbrellas.
Knit and Natter
Over a cup of tea and cake, our residents and staff at Mount Tryon had a great afternoon participating in our Knit and Natter group. Everyone joined in knitting or just chatting, and we were all reminiscing together.
It turns out that our home administrator, Tanya Kostova, is an expert knitter!
